They'd be getting Adam Jones, who's as good a positional prospect as any. And Chris Tillman has the chance to be a top-15 prospect after this season. Add to that two decent fringe prospects in Butler and Mickolio plus Sherrill...that's quite a haul for someone of Bedard's pedigree.

Santana went for less.

But once you factor in the fact that the GM that's doing this is Bill Bavasi, it makes more sense. :banghead:

? The Orioles haven't had a winning record in the last 10 years. With Bedard, Tejada and Roberts, and a weak farm system, we finished in 4th place. Without those 3 guys, and a stronger farm system and we finish in 4th place again, again...what's the difference? Maybe 1 or 2 less wins?

Apparently Bavasi thought it was going to be a 3 for 1 deal. According to MacPhail, Bavasi didn't agree to trading 2 more guys until the last week to 10 days or so. Seems to me Bavasi was pressured into making this deal done.

Orioles have yet to bottom out......and it's really ugly once you get there. (DRays).

That is disturbing.

Does anyone really have faith that this team can turn things around as an organization? With Angelos?

I don't.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Well, their farm system is 16th according to Baseball America after being like in the bottom 5 for several years.

They've got a plethora of pitching talent, the AA talent alone is awesome.

By turning things around, do you mean winning the division or being a playoff contender? I think they can start contending for a wild card by 2010. I really believe that, especially if they get Tex to come home.

Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.
