I thought that there was a ban from the commissioner's office clearly stating that Pete Rose is ineligible. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe. Let me rephrase. The people in charge of inducting honorees are dumb.

i'd like for them not to get in, but they will and there is no reason they shouldn't
there are people in the hall of fame who cheated, not as bad as taking drugs, but if there were players who had the chance they would have

Which is ironic since roids saved baseball in the late 90's.

I don't have all the answers, but I will say two things:

(1) Both Bonds and Clemens were locks before the time when they apparently started taking steroids.

(2) You should also be careful about whom you condemn, because you just might learn tomorrow that your favorite players were on the juice. (Of course, not all of them lied to Congress or a grand jury about it.)

I assume you mean the McGwire-Sosa HR chase. But there were a ton of things that were credited with "saving baseball" in the late 90s. Ripken's streak. The Hideo Nomo phenomenon. Ken Griffey Jr. The Yankees returning to prominence. My thought: baseball saved itself, because it's baseball.

Yes,who cares what they did to keep there carriers going, they were HOF's way before the years that has been said that they started doing the stuff and they have not tested positive test since the rules have been put in so it aint cheating if there wasnt a rule against it. Has for the Pete Rose there was a rule against betting,I'm not a fan of his but what he did as a player should have nothing to do with what he did as a manager, and he should be in,but the HOF has become a joke anyway.

I think they should be but they should be in a cornered off section noting the steroid controversy surrounding them.

The difference between McGwire and Bonds/Clemens is that McGwire entire resume is built around his use of PED. Bonds hit for power, hit for average, drew walks, stole bases, and won gold gloves all before his reported steroid usage. Clemens was an intimidating force in the 1980s and 90s and went from being one of the best pitchers of the era to one of the best pitchers of all time at the time be began using. He is hard to judge because he also developed that split late in his career so I truly believe he would have been relevant (although not dominate) into the 2000s even without PED. McGwire's entire case is built around his HR hitting prowless. He drew some walks but his calling card for the HOF is his HR hitting so it's really hard to divorce yourself from that. He was truly one of the best power hitters, if not the premier power hitter of the 90s, even with the PED, so there is a chance he gets in but I think in time, people will see the non-steroid greatness of Bonds and Clemens while McGwire will be in limbo and a poor litmus test. If McGwire does get in, though, everyone's getting in. mahalo
