Phillies get Lee, Mariners get Wilson, Giants get Sanchez

Post#1 » by TheLowlySquire » Wed Jul 29, 2009 11:24 pm

Phillies win their trade. Cliff Lee is a terrific pitcher, and Philadelphia didn't give up too much.

The Pirates gave up Jack Wilson and Ian Snell to the Mariners and traded Sanchez to San Francisco. Pittsburgh got some good prospects, especially Tim Alderson. Mariners made a good trade. Giants didn't.

You basically prefer Juan Uribe at second base over Freddy Sanchez?

This trade puts that scrub on the bench where he belongs.

I don't think anyone is questioning that Sanchez is an upgrade over Uribe but the price seems pretty steep. Alderson projects as a solid major league pitcher and is already at AA at such a young age. He's definitely a top 2 prospect in several other systems. I can see why they traded him because of guys like Wheeler and Bumgarner but I thought he could have gone in a bigger package for a better hitter.

I actually really like what the Bucs did today. They just need to keep these guys around for more than 4 years. But they now have a wealth of young talent in their system, something they've needed for awhile now.

GM Huntington has really turned the Pirates upside down, for the better. When he came to the Pirates, he said he wanted to built up the prospect depth. Before he came here, the Pirates had nothing. Littlefield was awful and did not know how to evaluate talent.

Everything Huntington has done so far has been great. The Pirates now have legitimate prospects. These trades for the Pirates aren't about winning or losing. It's about the future. Jack Wilson, Freddie Sanchez, Adam LaRoche, Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Nate McLouth and Nyjer Morgan weren't going to lead the Pirates to the playoffs. He has drafted well and has gone out and made some good baseball trades. For the first time in a long time, I am actually excited at what the Pirates have. If even half the players Huntington has got in trades and drafting pan out, the Pirates will be a very good young team in a few years.

And now I am getting tired of ESPN taking a dig at the Pirates any chance they get. Jack Wilson, Freddie Sanchez and Adam LaRoche led the Pirates to absolutely nothing. Stop trying to make them out to be more then they are.

How does Brian Sabean still have a job? That's just an atrocious trade for the Giants.

He still has a job because of Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. Ironically, two guys who he nearly moved before last season...only a horrendous move (signing Rowand to that contract) prevented him from making an even more horrendous move (trading Cain for Rios straight-up or close to it, or Linc for Rios + a smidge of value).

Well, the Giants have a shot at the NL Wild Card, so it's not that bad of a trade. Wild Card + Lincecum + Cain = NL Pennant.

Am I the only one confused on how the Pirates can manage to keep trading All Star players?

Like, where did they come from?

The thing with the Pirates trading all-stars is that they always have to have one player on the AS roster... Even if it's a mediocre one. Freddy Sanchez wouldn't be an all star if he played for the Giants.

lol at Chris giving the Giants a D grade. Sanchez is the best thing to happen to the Giants at second base since Jeff Kent left.
