Peter Gammons leaving ESPN

Peter Gammons is leaving ESPN following the end of baseball's winter meetings this week.

Gammons, who joined ESPN in 1989 after a distinguished print journalism career with the Boston Globe and Sports Illustrated, has decided to pursue other endeavors.

"My decision to leave ESPN and move on at this point in my life has been conflicted," said Gammons in a statement. "I owe a great deal of my professional life to ESPN, having spent more than half of my 40 years in journalism working for the network, and the choice to move on was made with nothing but the strongest feelings for the people with whom I worked. ESPN gave me a great deal more than I gave it, and will always be a huge part of who I am."

What do you guys think of this move?

I know ESPN has Buster and Tim Kurkjian left, but maybe Gammons was pushed out but they want it to seem he left on his own terms.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

I'm not sure why ESPN would push one of baseball's best insiders out. Hopefully he gets a job with MLB Network. They already have Heyman and Rosenthal, so they'd have the three best baseball insiders.

Heyman and Rosenthal?!?!? Best?!?!?!? What?!?!?!

Heyman is a Boras mouthpiece. Both blatantly make up rumors. Neither knows anything about baseball.

I wish him good health. The Red Sox fandom will not be missed. That being said, I do respect the guy.

Name some rumors they've made up.

Gammons joining MLB Network and MLB.com as an analyst. Also goes to NESN as an analyst. Good news here.

Seth Everett on 1050 ESPN just reported that as well. Good for him. Can stay at home, do some segments & write a book.

I was disappointed when I saw he was leaving, until I learned that he's coming to nesn.

And espn would be fools to push him out, who will be the guy with actual knowledge now? Kruk?
