Pretty even trade for both teams. Cliff Lee is going to Texas, giving them a legit ace they have lacked for awhile. Maybe since Nolan Ryan. While giving up on Smoak is something a team needs to do to get somebody as good as Lee, remember they still have Chris Davis who is a viable option at 1B for now. Lee can go out and win games and that is what the Rangers need so they can make an impact in the playoffs.

I think it's a horrible deal for the Rangers if they can't resign Lee. They don't have enough IMO to win it all this year with or without Lee. So why give up a prospect as good as Smoak?

The only way I see them keeping Lee is if the ownership debacle gets cleared up by the start of the offseason and the new owner gives the green light. If a non-Selig sanctioned bidder (read: Mark Cuban) wins that auction, I expect more legal infighting.

Lee lives in Texas so that is a perk for the Rangers. Also the worst the Rangers get if Lee does leave is a first round pick.

Yeah but they gave up Smoak who is one of the better hitting prospects in baseball already. Who knows what you get at the end of the first round.

And they probably won't be able to resign him.

Definitely a risky move down the road.

Because the Rangers always have hitters especially 1st basemen. Pitching on the other hand is a different story. Smoak might be a good hitter but is a pathetic defensive 1st baseman and quite frankly I was glad to see him gone.

great prospect imo, his new team will benefit greatly from this trade. he'll be crucial for the possible post-season push.
