He has a higher batting average, he has more RBI's, he scores more runs, he's faster/steals more bases. Any of those.

RBIs/runs are fun. just a complete omission of being a team stat.
I'd have to side with MVP voting/all star appearances.

Good points about the awards. I'll throw in Gold Gloves to the mix.

Nah, I think Gold Gloves are actually pretty good. Is it great? No, obviously not because some players do get awarded it due to reputation, rather than skill, but generally, the best fielders get it.

Not true.

Sure some guys compile stats, but a good record is the result of talent, teamwork, and decision making.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

I don't even bother to consider win-loss records when looking at a relief pitcher. I always hear someone go "Dude, he's got a 2.03 ERA AND he's 4-0. He's soooo much better. For a starter it's shaky still but not as odd as a quality start. Maybe if they made it a little bit harder to earn a quality start, I'd take it seriously.

i think media might be putting too much emphasis on individual performances which undermines the importance of teamwork.
