OT, Potential 3 team playoff in Baseball

Post#1 » by Christophersp10 » Sat Oct 2, 2010 11:50 pm

Braves and Padres are both tied for the WC with 90 wins. Giants own a share of the NL West with 91 wins and are playing the Padres on the final day of the season.

If the Padres beat the Giants tomorrow, the Padres force a 1 game playoff for the NL West.

If the Braves beat the Phillies tomorrow, the Braves force a 1 game playoff for the Wild Card.

This is due to them all having 91 wins. Under this scenario the following happens.

Padres vs Giants in a 1 game playoff for the NL West on Monday.

Loser vs Braves in a 1 game playoff for the Wild Card on Tuesday.

God, MAKE IT HAPPEN!

NO, GOD, DON'T MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Go Padres :)
(I'm a season ticket holder)

Let's hope we beat the giants and the braves lose so we can clinch the division with no play off.

They should just play a 1vs1vs1 game. It could work; Braves bat vs. Padres, Padres bat vs. Giants, Giants bat vs. Braves.

Oh so if the Padres play the Reds in the first round, Padres lose? Padres beat them 4-2 in the regular season series...

Don't judge it off the season series (see the Yankees in the playoffs 2004-2007)

Padres have the best bullpen in the majors, 2nd best ERA overall, fewest errors in NL, young team with heart. Veteran leadership from guys like Tejada and Eckstein.
Just sayin 8-)

Yeah we got you, how about you get lost now?

As for the actual topic I'm hoping for the 3 way tie. One game playoffs are always fun.

I'm actually a pusher of having this every year

Basically

3 division winners make the playoffs automatically

Top 2 wildcards have one game playoff to get in. OR you give 3 wild card spots, have 5 and 6 play the first day, then winner plays 4 to get in the playoffs

Beneficiary is bringing more teams in the playoff race. Plus it'd be ratings heaven. Wild Card weekend! And incentive to win the division is still there and actually gives more for the AL East race. For example right now Yankees/Rays race doesn't matter much, but it would be HUGE with these rules. Also gives more benefit to the #1 overall team cause they get to face the WC playoff winner without rest for their pitching staff

I think MLB is going to actually toy with the idea.....I like it.

I can't wait to see how the Braves and Giants both manage to lose in the first round.
