I don't really know the story behind it. Although the Kansas City Chiefs already had Arrowhead, so a multi-purpose stadium was not necessary.

Arrowhead is right next to Kauffman, it's all together in a big sports park right off of I-70. It's a nice set-up, except that the two stadiums share this huge-ass parking lot, and the Royals employ overzealous parking attendants who make you drive around in circles for half an hour before finally ushering you to your parking space. Not that I am complaining...overall, Royals games are great--nice ballpark, and some of the lowest ticket prices in MLB.

Ive driven past the stadium several times but never had a chance to go get a closer look. I was wondering, since its pretty far away from the downtown area, are there a lot of restaurants and bars nearby or in the stadium complex? I dont remember seeing a whole lot of those type of establishments nearby, but since I really only got a chance to look as driving by, I may be way off base. Can you help me out here?

I don't go to Royals games often enough to be an authority (I'm a Cardinals fan), but I'm not aware of too many bars and restaurants near the stadium. There are several nearby hotels, some of which have restaurants/bars on site, but there's not much else so far as I know.

I do know that there is a Gates BBQ within easy driving distance, on Business 40--from the stadium, take the Blue Ridge Cutoff over I-70, then turn right at the first traffic light; Gates is about half a mile ahead on the left side of the street.

I think there are some other restaurants over there too, but Gates is a local institution.

Last Royals game I went to, you could also get Gates inside the stadium, but only from a scaled-down menu.

I'll be a homer and go with the land of homer hankees, the homer dome. Other than that, I would go Kauffman, Jacobs, Comerica
US Cellular
