I propose we use this thread to periodically update Ichiro's season.

As of April 24, he's hitting .323/.354/.532 with 2 HR.

Also, he's still playing center field.

Apparently he's traded some speed for power this offseason.

Either that or sample size, take your pick.

Nope, this is easily enough atbats to make rash statements.

30 homers, people. Book it.

Here's a sort of on-off-topic question: think Ichiro has a chance at the Hall?

I know you're not big on him but he's been one of the best defensive outfielders since he's come over from Japan, hits a ton, and is eminently likeable. Sure he is overrated inasmuch that people think he's one of the five-ten best players in the league but you can't argue that he hasn't put up Hall-worthy credentials since coming to America.

The reason I ask is that the other day I was listening to a discussion on future hall of famers and out of the five baseball writers interviewed, only one thought Ichiro was Hall-bound.

Off-off-topic: MLB really needs to open up a dedicated foreign wing of the Hall of Fame and embrace their diversity.

I think we should let him in because he's Japanese.

I'm pretty sure Tom Selleck is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame, and he had what? One good season?

thats sorta surprising that only 1 writer picked him, id figure people would consider him a shoe in, he's an mvp/rookie of the year a great defensive player with a plethora of gold gloves.he also has the all time hits record, will probably finish with over 2000 hits over here.

If you go by just his MLB years he has no shot. He's just a typical RF and now a pretty good CF.

I'd have to agree he won't get in with just his MLB years and since the won't consider his numbers in Japan he's not making it in.
