Re: 2014 MLB Regular Season General Thread
Kansas City Royals have won 9 games in a row to take control of 1st place in the AL Central. Their offense seems has seem to come around on this current run.
Go Royals! Hope they finish the job.
Wow a Tanaka btw. I just wanted to see if that big ugly contract would work out. A Cy Young would be "worth the money" imo. 14 starts in (almost halfway through his season), it looks very feasible and he'd clearly win it if they voted today.

So Hanley Ramirez's error cost Clayton Kershaw a perfect game

Nats took care of business taking two of two from the Astros. Now the Braves come into town, time for some big boy baseball. We have got to show up this time, can't keep losing to our biggest division rival.

Huge series for the Braves as well. We can't afford to lose it and let the Nats take the div lead by 4 to 6 games.

Wanna win the division? Going 6-1 against your nearest division rivals helps. (still won't call the Nats our biggest rivals, I think the Phillies are still the biggest).

Maybe we should just pretend like every team is the Nats. So frustrating to lose to bum teams and then see what we are capable of against the better teams. It sucks that Floyd broke his elbow, I feel really bad about that.

Kimbrel blows the save but the Braves win in the 13th inning!! Gattis' hit streak is now 19, and the Braves move back into first place, thanks in part to our 7-1 record against the Nats this year.

Our rookie pitchers were impressive in extra innings, talk about being thrown straight into the fire and on the road.

Re: 2014 MLB Regular Season General Thread
We're beating the Nats psychologically before the first pitch is even thrown at this point. It's morally crushing losing over an over to your nearest division rival (we're 20-7 vs. Washington since the start of last year). They always seem to commit some costly defensive error against us (last night Desmond bobbled a double play in the 13th which scored an insurance run, and then of course there were all of those Zimmerman errors at 3rd), Strasburg always struggles vs. us, and we always beat up on their bullpen (since last year, Tyler Clippard's ERA vs. the Braves is over 9 since last year, and less than 1.50 vs. everyone else).
We have our ace on the mound today, after beating Washington's ace. A good game from Teheran should win us this series.

That was a tough loss. Hopefully we can still take the series.

Re: 2014 MLB Regular Season General Thread
Good job by the Nats to take the last two games. I was at the game Friday night and man was it a punch to the gut to lose in 13 after rallying to tie against Kimbrel. I love Stras but the guy just doesn't get up for big games like Fister/Zimmermann. There's always some kind of excuses being made for him, on Friday apparently he didn't like the pitch selection the coaches made(too many fastballs to Hayward). You're the freaking Ace, throw different pitches, or just stop making excuses.
Anyways, glad we're still in first place. Hopefully the Braves can keep playing sub .500 against the rest of the league before we play them again. Don't think we play again till August or September.

Let's see what Alex Wood can do tonight, some run support would be nice.

Two no-no's in a week. Two for Timmy in less than a year against the same team.
Can't help but think what the guy could've been without the sudden drop off a couple years ago. These flashes of brilliance make you think there could be something left.
Of course I say this like he's as old as Jaime Moyer. The dude is 30 and still has decent velocity and a curve that makes dudes look foolish. I'd like to see him make a run in the second half of his career and regain some of that excellence.

Re: 2014 MLB Regular Season General Thread
he's going to be inconsistent for the rest of his career because he was born and raised as a fastball throw it by you kinda guy and he no longer has that ability anymore. But if he gets another no hitter or world series ring, he's gotta be in the hall of fame talk when he retiresSchwabby wrote:Two no-no's in a week.
