If the Dodgers went after Scherzer in response, why not just absorb the DBacks or Padres and make the payroll $500 mil? Seems like the logical next step.

hoping we can dump some of our big contracts to take on Scherzer.
I'm willing to give up the lineup we had in order to go all in on pitching and defense.

this is the very reason we need to dump Kemp and Crawford's salaries. Scherzer is where we need to invest in.

I have a way with words.

But seriously, if those rotations shaped out that way, no one else in the West would ever score again.

He's also important because one Donald Zackary Greinke has an opt out clause at the end of this year.

I used to not be worried that he'd opt out because he'll be 32 this year….but i think someone would give him a 4 year deal to beat his last 3 years here.

but most important. It's well documented that Zack is a baseball nut. He's in on drafting etc. etc. He told AJ Ellis when he first got here that he would trade him and sign Brian McCann. Not so sure that would have worked out...With that said, he knows Mattingly is potato and in over his head….and he may not want to stick around for that if its the plan Lord Friedman has going forward. Just a random thought I had in my head.

So are the rest of the free agent pitchers, I'm sure. When he signs, that will set the market and will establish what the rest of them will get.

Exactly, and players like Shields and Scherzer will fly off the board within the matter of days after Lester signs. I hope he goes back to Boston, I'm just afraid that he saw the Hanley signing and was pushed back bc of it. Lester and Hanley didn't have the best relationship when they both played in AA Portland and AAA Pawtucket together.

Rumors are swirling around that the Sox are talking to the Tigers about a Cespedes for Porcello deal. IMO I want the Sox to go to the Padres or Mariners and try to get either Tyson Ross or Taijuan Walker. Its not that I'm not a fan of Porcello I'm just not sold on his overall consistency

Porcello is pretty streaky, but so is Cespedes. It'd be a decent deal for both teams, as the Sawx would get a bottom end rotation guy and the Tigers would get a bat for the six spot down.

I'll have a stroke of the Sawx get Taijuan Walker.

Nick Markakis to the Braves on a 4 year deal.

i'd like to see the money before commenting. But he should help relieve some of the hurt from trading Jay Hey

Jon Heyman tweeted that it was 4yr for 44mil Markakis to the Braves. I guess the Braves go from one gold glover to another

Now hopefully we trade J-Up but keep Gattis for LF. The defense will take a hit but at least we would keep some power.

Really like the Markakis move, good contact hitter who will slide into the leadoff role on offense, and a gold glover on defense.
