Not sure I understand the Tigers mode of thinking btw

edit:
btw, Higga. I know YOU didn't mind letting Zimmermann walk but if the media and rumors are any indication, the Nats didn't seem to put up much of a fight.

We actually offered him almost the exact same deal last year. He signed for 5/$110, we offered him 5/$105. It was clear he wanted to leave and sign with a team closer to his home(he's from Wisconsin). I like him as a player, but he had an off year this past year, got rocked quite a bit and his fastball velocity dropped. He's always been a strike thrower who overpowered guys with great fastball command, if that's gone he's going to get rocked even more in the AL. I'm glad he got paid and wish him the best of luck, but after he turned down $100 Mil last year, I'm glad we went out and got Scherzer and basically wished Zimm farewell.

For the Tigers sake I hope he returns to 2011-2014 form when he was one of the best Ps in baseball. He's one of my all time favorite Nats so I'll always root for him to do well but it wouldn't shock me if that contract ends up looking really bad in a year or two. Remember he's also had TJ Surgery before which may cause an earlier decline.

Just lol at David Price getting Kershaw money at 30 years old.

That's just crazy money. I like Price but he isn't that good and he always gags it up in the postseason.

He's easily been one of the top five pitchers in baseball each season since 2010 and has honestly gotten better the last two, so he sorta is that good. But his postseason record really makes nearly $220 million a bit of a reach.

There's also the fun side-story that he and David Ortiz kinda hate each other.

Greinke is apparently choosing between the Dodgers and Giants.

Follow the rings, Zack.

Never had a chance with our cheap owners. I know AA would have tried to sell them on the idea, but he's gone precisely because he wasn't frugal enough for our owners.

It's an overpay, but his annual salary is equivalent to what we'll be paying our newly extended/signed (and positively mediocre) trio of Estrada-Chavez-Happ (albeit over far fewer years).

I don't like the Jays strategy one bit. Rogers hates spending money, but they also expect immediate results (forcing GMs to make win-now trades instead of letting prospects develop). It's an endless cycle of failure that's going to continue until we get new owners.

I don't get it.
Don't the Jays have tons of money and haven't they made it known that they will spend it?

just wow if they're liars in that regard.

1) Yes they are liars. For several years they have touted that "if the fans come, payroll will boost". The fans came and we are looking at a payroll reduction.
2) Yes they have tonnes of money

3) Hollywood accounting limits their revenue.

The LA Dodgers are going to make 7 billion dollars over 25 years for their TV rights (280,000,000/year)
Toronto sells their broadcast rights to themselves for 20 million dollars. The Jays averaged close to 900K viewers for their games last year. Even at their worst the Jays typically draw 600-700K for their games. Down the stretch they were routinely pulling in almost 2million viewers for the series against the Yankees heading into the postseason. In comparison the LA Dodgers in 2013 prior to switching to their private carrier they were reaching 154,000. It's a downright joke.

Diamondbacks now in on Greinke.
I'll pass on the two NL West teams driving his price up.

Greinke is a D-Back now.
6 years for 195 Ms.

Glad we did not match that.

Baseball desperately needs to put a limit on contract lengths. Structure like the NBA. 4/5 max years.
