I wish he had done this on the road. Like in Milwaukee.

To me he is an asterisk until further notice.

I agree with West.

If you look at his numbers before 1999 (when "Game of Shadows" reports his first sign of alleged setroid use), Barry had already hit 411 home runs in the span of 13 seasons, and his high for a season was 46 in 1993.

From the period of '99-present he has hit 345 home runs (including his record breaker). That average comes out to be about 38 home runs per season for 9 seasons. I know that he had that tremendous 73 HR season, but taking that out of account, Barry could've still broken that record.

Anyways....... Congrats to Barry for making history, but it doesn't look like he'll hold on to this record for long. Whether it be broken by A-Rod, Pujols or whoever comes along, this record will not stand for 31 years as it did for Hammerin' Hank.

I don't care what anyone says, Barry Bonds is the greatest hitter baseball has ever seen. No one on Earth can judge a strike zone better than Bonds and no one ever will.

Hell, I didn't see this, and I really don't want too. i just want A-Rod to break this record within the next 5 years. Everybody outside of those dellusional 40,000 people at that stadium should seriously be depressed. it's not just the steriods either. Bonds is an @$$hole who dosen't care about his family, friends, owners, teammates, or fans. He cheats on his wife, his taxes, and the game.

If Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson can't make it into the hall of fame, than this scum shouldn't.

What the above posters don't realize is that no one in life is perfect. People cheat all the time, chances are your co-workers do unethical things everyday. Half You're favorite ball players probably cheat on their wives on road trips and chances are a good amount of them have used some sort of steroids or greenies. Maybe Barry Bonds isn't perfect, hell I know he isn't...but in this 'steroid era' he has been the best player in the game, for a span of almost 20 years you could argue that he has been the best. There was a good 15 year period where he was the best player in baseball

Bud Seig knew what was goign on. What don't you people realize? He knew Mac and Sammy were juicing. He had to of known. Anything that was as widespread as they say it was had have of been known by anyone close to the game. The writers knew, few said anything. Players all knew what was going on, these guys aren't stupid. Managers and coaches knew, didn't say anything. What goes on behind closed doors and doesn't negatively affect what goes on on the field is fine to them right? Owners said nothing because these guys were their investments. If they could get more out of their investments, why bother investigating.

This brings us to Bud Selig, he knew about Mac and Sammy, but didn't say anything. TV ratings were through the roof. The home run chase of 98 brought baseball to the national forefront. Hell I can remember my high school history teacher enamored that Mark McGwire had 17 inch forearms. Think about how big that is for a second. Its unhuman. To think Bud Selig had no idea what was going on is just either stupid or ignorant. He turned his back and watched the money flow. Barry Bonds is the product of a situation that Bud Selig created by not testing earlier and letting steroids get out of control. Don't hate someone for beating the system. Hate the system for allowing someone to beat IT.

I sure as hell don't think I would like Barry Bonds the person, but it doesn't mean that I can't respect the fact that he is the best baseball player we may ever see.

i'm totally glad he did it. nobody's perfect, and so many people did steroids in the 80-00's and we can't say for sure who did and who didn't do it, it's not fair to just single out bonds. bonds is truely a great player and since so many people did it in his era and didn't hit 756 HR's, it shows how great of a accomplishment he is.

i also wouldn't judge bonds based on what the media thinks of him. being a MLBer seems tough to handle. everyday talking to somebody, always got pressure on you, and espically for someone like bonds it isn't something he'd like. although he handled it the wrong way, i don't think he's a terrible person. he obviously does care for his kids and wife. and i just think he's a little miss understood.

congrats barry.

Bud Selig is the worst commissioner ever. He disrespected the game of baseball not being in attentence for the best record in baseball.

thats exactly how I feel. I think its extremely ridiculous for everyone to be gunning to bring down one man (Barry) as the culprit for a problem that many men created.

It is absolutely ridiculous how Barry is being the scapegoat for this entire era when countless others have used steroids. How many of the pitchers that have pitched to Barry have used steroids? Plenty.

Guess what?

Commish wasn't there for Aaron's.

Commish wasn't there for Ruth's.

So I guess there are 3 worst commissioners ever.

I respect the record that Barry Bonds now holds...I respect Barry Bonds as a baseball player...and I also respect the good ol' saying that this countries judical foundation was built on "innocent until proven guilty."

I'm very grateful that I was able to witness sports history.

Funny coming from someone named juice.

If you read through this thread you know how I feel about Bonds. But love him or hate him the guy DID ADMIT to using steroids. People still for some reason don't get it

Yes, this is the fine print. But Very important when your saying what a man did or didn't do.
