ahhh….always thought the Braves had won enough divisions under Bobby Cox for their fans to always be in win now mode.

How was Justin Upton though, aside from the numbers? Did he have attitude problems? Throw temper tantrums? Good chemistry guy? Anything on the makeup front?

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
Not really a rebuild, I think retool is a better word for what the Braves are doing. Hart is trying to make sure we're in a position to win in 2017 when we move to Cobb County. Even though he's expiring, a player of Justin Upton's caliber will warrant a nice return in the form of a prospect for the future, or we could at least use him to try and salary dump his brother. I'd love to re-sign Justin, but I think that there's a higher chance of us losing him for nothing than there is of re-signing him. And no he doesn't have any attitude issues that I know of.

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
Upton is in the market to be traded because the Braves have a terrible TV deal and cannot afford his next contract. it has nothing to do with anything else but that. if the braves were winning the WS every year to bring in the revenues, yes they may offer him a long term contract but despite his 29 HRs, .833 OPS, and nearly 4 fWAR, for TV cash strapped Braves about 110 million a year payroll is as good as it will get for them.

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
The Braves had issues offensively all year, so yeah it definitely makes sense to dump Upton after dumping Heyward.
Their lineup is going to end up being Freddie Freeman and 8 minor leaguers.
Glad the Nats could come to an agreement with Harps to avoid arbitration.

Yankees just made a big splash!
Chase Headley re-signs for 4yr/$50ish million.

Pretty good deal for the Yanks
Honestly, I was hoping he'd go to the Giants for that.

He was pretty clutch for us in the short span he was around after the deadline. Lots of late inning/walk-off hits. I'm mostly being facetious about this.
Cashman supposedly has said that the Scherzer sweepstakes is getting too rich, even for them.
All I'm looking for now is another mid-rotation guy, or two, like Kuroda to fill out the squad. Then see if we can make a Sawx like run from 2013, and go all in next winter.
Or... And here's a crazy thought, actually rebuild like a normal franchise and start phasing out all these aging contracts while replenishing with young talent.
I can dream...

Nothing mentioned about him in Yankee World? Or you don't think they would be interested?

I haven't heard anything about dealing for him, not that I'd want him on the payroll for $40 million in two seasons, anyway. Though, I'm sure Cash would want Dipoto to eat almost half of that.
He'd be a decent 3-4 for us.

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
So the Guggenheim Analytics team signs Brett Anderson.
2 pitchers who have an injury history inked to deals.
Maybe they have analytics on injury recovery or something.
go figure.
they're OGs, so I'm just gonna blindly listen like I said before.

the guy who is actually playing injury analytics is Theo Epstein. in fact the Chicago media calls it the "medicine ball" because he was collecting cheap contracts from all over the world on pitchers coming off of injuries who were stars prior to those said injuries.
I think there is a chance we start the season with 6 starting pitchers, and one of the two coming off the injury starts from a rehab assignment or out of the pen.
if we do start the season with the 5some we currently have in our rotation, I would expect to see a great season out of Anderson, he needs a career year to score a lucrative long term deal as he is going to be 27 when this 1 year deal is up.
ehhhhh f it.
