Braves overcome a 4 run deficit to beat the Nationals!! Ramiro Pena was the hero after he layed down a wonderful bunt single in the 9th and the go ahead 2 run home-run in the 10th that ended up being the difference. Go Braves!!!! 9-1

Jose Reyes either broke his ankle or did some serious damage to the ligaments in it.

bad news for the blue jays.

Reyes out at least 3 months, further MRI's pending. He had easily been Jays best player so far this year. :(

I know I'm a couple days late, but Carlos Quentin got off way too easy. I would have given him 12-15 games.

The Nationals need to get Zimmerman off of third base ASAP.

Braves up 7-0 against Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals. Well on our way to a sweep and a 9th straight win.

Sad to see what's happened to him. He's gone from being arguably the best defensive 3B in baseball, to a major defensive liability.

I don't post on the baseball boards, well, ever, but as a Braves fan I had to post something. I know we obviously won't go 11-1 every 12 games. The "coming back down to earth" that's looming in the next week or two will take some getting use to. But it's scary that we're doing this with Freeman and McCann on the DL. Freeman was raking and keeping pace with Justin Upton before he got hurt. I mean even with Heyard and B.J. struggling, the 3 and 4 spots in the lineup were killing it, which is why we were able to still score so many runs and win games. After Freeman got put on the 15 day DL, I thought we'd drop 2 or 3 of the next 5 or so if Heyward and/or Upton didn't get going. When those 2 get back, the depth this team will have will be scary. Fredi is going to have a real conundrum on his hands when McCann comes back if Gattis is still hitting at or close to this rate.

Oh, and Paul Maholm on the season: 20.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 11 H, 5 BB, 20 SO, 3-0 record.

I'm not gonna lie, it feels great punching the Nats in the mouth. But adding onto what NaturalThunder said about the injuries, don't forget about Brandon Beachy: he led the league in ERA last year before going down needing Tommy John surgery and he gets back in July and should get back into form in August. Our pitching staff has the chance of being the best in the Majors and if Teheran plays well it'll be 6 deep.

Didn't get to watch much of the Braves series, which I guess is a good thing because it sucked. First two games could have gone either way, we basically gave Game 1 away with two of our top relievers choking and our defense sucking late, can't give a lineup like the Braves that many extra chances. Game 3 we just got smoked, which happens from time to time.

Not sure what's up with Zimmerman. His arm has always been a bit erratic, but now it's just a complete disaster. He's still got great range and a great glove, and he'll hit eventually(he's always been a slow starter before turning it on in the summer months)but his errors on Friday and Saturday basically cost us the game more or less.

The bullpen has been a disaster so far. Not one guy that can be relied upon. Sucks because last year it was pretty much lockdown. I have no confidence in Storen or Clip at this point.

Davey has really done a poor job managing the pitchers. Why did we burn Soriano three nights in a row against the White Sox in games where we were up 3 runs? Why did he not push Detwiler to an 8th inning when he was rolling thru 7?

I'm not worried though. It's early in the season, championships aren't won or lost in April. I honestly think we needed a dose of humility, way too much talk of winning 120+ games and hearing our own hype. Hopefully a day off today and road trips to Miami and New York will turn us around. The Braves are red hot right now but they aren't gonna keep up this pace. It'll be a dogfight in the division all year though, but the Braves have drawn first blood.

The Braves continue to thrive and they face KC next.

It's been a very exciting season so far for both my Braves and A's.

the A's were on a roll till the tigers came to town. fortunately they can get back on track with the astros making their first trip to the bay, but houston is playing better than the last time we saw them.

He simply pitched way too many innings. Seven years in a row of 200+ innings. Sadly he might be done. I think James Shields is on a similar trajectory.

I think it's pretty interesting to see how differently innings affect certain pitchers. You've got guys like Haren, Ben Sheets or even Erik Bedard who go a few seasons at 190-200+ IP and then subsequently burn out, whereas guys like Roy Halladay (maybe less so now), Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia are still going strong.

You think it's mostly because they have changed their repertoires over the years, or because they just have physical freakiness about them?

7 years is more than a few seasons though. Halladay is a shell of his former self after pitching 6 years in a row of 200+ innings baseball. And in CC's case, yeah, he's just a physical freak.

Size plays a huge role in pitching prospects, from what I've learned and read. This is why scouts like their pitchers to be ~6'4 and taller because they last longer than your smallish 6'0 guys. Just so much wear and tear in the pitching motion.

Royals beat the Braves 1-0 in a pitchers duel, the Bravos fall to 12-2. Oh well, you can't win them all

this forum is going to regret hating on the Royal's move this offseason.

they're getting this wild card spot.
