That's because they don't spend billions of dollars (actual figures may vary) on big name players every year. The Dodgers and Yankees bring these things upon themselves by capturing the headlines with big moves. It's great for publicity and national attention, but it also places huge expectation on them.

The Yankees are lucky they had Jeter to district the country from their expensive and awful ball club.

yea, everybody knows you stunk it up for a large part of the season and picked it back up at the end of August and September.

no dice.
Vegas is going to pick the NL.
and the writers are going to pick the team that's been there before.

sucks bro. i know. but you would have to win from ahead this time. with expectations.

how does big spending place more expectation on you than previously winning does?

i mean i get it but it's **** potato.

it's whatever. The game of baseball needs a team that can win from out in front. This isn't NCAAB. The cinderella/ us against the world stories are cool but someone needs to be the big bad wolf at some point....hopefully we step up to the plate and accept that challenge next year.

It's not really about big spending, it's about big acquisitions that steal the headlines. You pay to become a favorite. You're expect to deliver.

The Cards don't make huge moves. When it comes time to resign one of the greatest players in their franchise's history, they passed. Everything they do is under the radar.

I agree. I always cheered for the Yankees over every team in the AL for this reason. Especially the Sox.

Sidenote: If anyone knows a place where I can buy one of those "These O's ain't Royal" shirts that Jeremy Guthrie wore last night, that would be great.

Seriously, read this sentence and not feel like you're in an alternate reality:

The Kansas City Royals are going to the World Series.

In public, he's an optimist; in the comfort of his own board, he's a pessimist. He is polarity defined.
