Hope the A's and Pirates win their Game 5s, but I think both losing. Don't see the A's beating Verlander or the Bucs beating Wainwright.

Looks like the clock has hit midnight for the Pirates.

Cards in 7.

I don't know how you can think about classifying them as choke artists when they played 5 elimination games in ten days (and won 4).

The Rays won 3 straight elimination games but laid an egg in games 1 and 2.

Boston dominated the season series (including the playoff games) 15-8. Boston is the best team in the AL, and probably in MLB.

Starting pitching is about equal, but the Red Sox run the bases better, hit better, and had a better bullpen all year.

Some of the players that the rays have not been able to afford to keep over the past few years are; Carl Crawford,
Rafael Soriano, Joaquin Benoit, Grant Balfour, Matt Garza, james Shields among others.

The Rays bullpen LOST at least 15 games this year after having the lead in the 7th inning or later. Not blown saves, but LOST games. What happened last night was just typical of the bullpen's performance all year.

If anything, the Rays have vastly overachieved.

3 straight elimination games because they blew the 1st two games in Toronto after being on a 7 game winning streak.

your post is indicative of what I'm talking about.
how in the hell did this team overachieve? I predicted this team to win the division. The only way they overachieve is if your emotions take over and you feel bad about their FO not having funds.

from a baseball standpoint...I don't want to hear excuses and crap about them "overachieving" when Matt Moore and David Price went into Boston and stunk the joint up.
credit to Boston...but those 2 guys are better pitchers than that and they should have performed better in the post season and given their team a better chance to win....or pull off an upset...whatever terminology makes you more comfortable.

Won't see Wainwright until Game 3.
Wacha pitched game 4...so for normal rest he'd be in on game 2...the same game Kershaw is throwing.

given the way that's set up.
I like the way this series looks for the Dodgers.

edit:
if we steal game 1.
i want to throw Kershaw in Game 3...to set him up to beat Wainwright in game 3 and potentially game 7.

Best hitter- .299, next .293 then .275, .260
Team batting average- .257
Hr leader- 32, next 18, 16, 14
RBI leader- 88 next 75 then 71
SB leader- 20, next 11 then 8, 7

ERA- 3.74 4th in AL
Wins 17, next 12, 11, 10
Saves- 42, but 22 additional save opportunities

This team was not as good as people expected, yes.

This team probably should not have made the playoffs either given the paltry offense that no longer manufactured runs, stole bases, and struck out too much.

Add in the 22 missed save opportunities in addition to the 15+ games where leads were blown in late innings.

Sure Price and Moore stunk up the joint in their starts, no question about it. But so did Cy Young winners Denny McLain, Jim Lonborg, Jim Palmer and Roger Clemens among others during prominent years too.

This team is deep with a lot of marginal players offensively, but they have just a couple of legitimate FT players.

The bullpen has been a disaster all year,,,,,

Maybe if people showed up to games the Rays could have afforded to keep some of their past players.

you used those stats somewhat erroneously....let's see what these numbers mean in terms of the league.
- the team was 4th in the majors in OBP. lol at batting average. was that a joke?
- even using the BA stat. .257 puts them at 12th in the majors.
- they're 21st in strikeouts...21st being the good way that supports my side...9th best against SO...whatever.
- 11th in runs scored
- 11th in the league in HR...i know that's 9th in the AL but 165 HRs is not a team devoid of power

5th in ERA in the AL...one slot ahead of Boston
#1 in BAA
5th in oppononents OBP since BAA doesn't tell the entire story
3rd in oppononents SLG

4th in fangraphs UZR...but i know some ppl aren't a fan of this...but i just want to throw it out there.

so again...how did this team overachieve?
the team not PLAYING WELL as people expected does not get them off the hook. It doesn't mean they overachieved. It means they put out their own fire in the process.

there is no excuse.

so ill give Boston the edge in 7.

mattingly dropped Paco and Capuano from the roster.
we now have Volquez and Carlos Marmol.

i don't want to know Donnie's rhyme or reason anymore.
just bring me a chip and consider us even.

IDC if he went 8 n gave up 2.

I'm pissed off that Greinke let Kelly get a hit in the 3rd, then walked Carpenter...boom Beltran
that's the only reason these jerks were in the game.

oh what happened at the end?
hit by the 9th hitter descalso, walk Carpenter....boom Beltran.

two times walking carpenter in front of beltran.
only  to keep from crying

Damn both teams missing out on alot of scoring opportunities, but Cards take advantage of a mistake first. Also get out of a bases loaded 1 out situation.

Damn, Quake... Where'd the bats go?

If the Dodgers can't hit at Busch, it'll be even worse when they go home.
