Baseballl seems to be enjoying a popularity that has been growing over the last few years. Does that lead you to believe that expansion can be viable??? Some cities that should be considered are Portland. My thinking behind Montreal is they seem to get a raw deal the last decade of that franchise people forget how solid the fan base was 26 out of those 36 seasons. If you place a open air stadium in down town montreal it will draw fans unlike the montrosity that was the Big O.

I don't think Montreal can support another baseball team.

Vancouver will be a good place for a new team. And you another Cali or texas -based team.

Montreal would not get another team.

HELL NO! No league should have more than 25 teams in my opinion, let alone 32 teams....

I don' know about contacting teams, but no way to adding any more.

Montreal would be a terrible choice to get an expansion (or any team) for that matter).

I doubt Charlotte is big enough to successfully support another professional franchise either.

The Royals and Marlins should be dissolved.

The Marlins are for sure one of the teams that would go. Based on attendance you could say the A's or Pirates as another team.

22 teams might be better than 32. And I don't really agree with you that baseball is back, I don't think it is getting traction for many people under 25. I'm around 25 most of my friends are sports fans most don't care about baseball. Also have you seen some of the attendance figures around the league this year? Toronto/Cleavland/Balt. All got around 10K per game after opening day...its terrible.
Not to mention the problems you will have in Zona/KC/Pitt/FLA/TB/SD gotta fix the problems and interest in the problems cities now before going somewhere else or MLB will be the NHL in 10 years.

mlb needs to do something to expand its fanbase. quebec and western Canada present lots of opportunities (Vancouver/BC has produced more talent the last couple years than Mexico, Quebec is like a little nation a couple hours drive from the biggest markets in the US, it's wealthy and has companies/billionaires that could sponsor the team. give it a stadium in a central location like the Canadiens have, and Canadian ownership and the team can't do any worse than 10 or 15 other ones while in the rebuilding phase.
If Montreal and Ottawa were in the US they'd probably consider them together in a market. that's easily 5-6 million people (about the size of Charlotte) and that's not considering the rest of Quebec between Montreal and Quebec City.
the Canadian market has always been there to be tapped into but the leagues don't seem to care. I think Toronto has a higher gdp per capita than Chicago and the horseshoe area has the same area and population as Chicagoland. yet 2 teams in any of the leagues has never really been entertained.

why not ? the south american/mexican/caribbean markets have been ignored while the size of them has been growing fast. as a result baseball might be losing popularity there, in particular mlb. nhl has done a great job keeping interest relatively high in Europe and elsewhere.

It has nothing to do with gdp. Although population can play a factor in supporting teams, it can still end up being insignificant if the city does not support a franchise. Both franchises have been in the city for over 100 years and continue to get fan support and money.

I think Vancouver and Portland could be a good idea for a new markets, but I also think 30 teams should be reduced to 28. Either way having 14 teams in one league and 16 in another is idiotic.

I wouldnt mind seeing 2 new teams, but i think that the MLB should shorten the season but add more playoff teams. It sucks that teams like Boston, Yanks, Rays are great teams but one of them would have to miss the playoffs every year. Could you imagine the intensity of the AL playoffs with the Yanks, BoSox and Rays all in it

Rumors are circulating that MLB will add an additional wild card in the next year or two.

Sternberg (majority owner) of the Rays said as much about a week ago.

How on earth would you add one WC spot? What would a 5 team playoff look like?

And +1 for fewer, rather than more, teams. Not that I think it's likely to happen or anything.

Who knows? Probably the wc's playing a short series against each other
