Braves skipper Cox: Pujols worth '$50 million' to CardsAtlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has an idea of how much St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols should get in his next contract: $50 million a year.
Cox saw that Philadelphia star Ryan Howard got a five-year extension worth $125 million.
So on Tuesday, before the Braves played at St. Louis, Cox offered his assessment. Cox says Pujols is twice as good as any player in the majors.
Pujols is in the final year of a seven-year, $100 million contract with St. Louis. The Cardinals have a $16 million option on the three-time NL MVP for next season.

Cox said nothing about 50 million. Stupid writer.

Sorry but it's absolutely ridiculous to suggest that any player in the league is worth 50 million. I'd gladly take two 20 million dollar players and a 10 million dollar player over spending 50 million on any 1 player anyday of the week (yes even Pujols).

He said pay him double anyone else as he's twice as good. Howard makes $25m, not a huge leap in logic, though it was undoubtedly hyperbole.

Pujols is gonna make a ton of money no doubt, but can the Cards afford the heavy payroll?
