Starlin Castro called up to the majors

I'm not sure what to make of this one. On the one hand, only 243 AB's above A-ball doesn't seem like enough time in the minors. On the other hand, he will probably make the team a little better. He'll be better than Theriot defensively (who will move to 2nd) and will probably put up a line similar to what Andrus did last year (which would actually outproduce the current Fontenot/Baker platoon).

I think he'll be the youngest player in the majors when he debuts, he's a few months younger than Heyward.

Too early.

Praise Allah.

Noodle arm is finally moving from SS.

Castro is simply too good for AA. No point in sending him to AAA which is essentially the same level. He's dominated every jump. Get him to the majors and have him learn here.

A Mike Fontenot/Jeff Baker platoon should not hold back a 20 year old that is hitting nearly .400 at AA. Especially, considering he is an upgrade defensively.

Castro has way better minor league numbers than Elvis Andrus and should out produce him even though he's a full year younger than Andrus was last season.

Finally, a reason to watch the Cubs this season.

He's dominating because he's hitting over .400 on balls in play. No doubt that he's exceeding expectations for his age and level, but this is rushing him. He hasn't dominated offensively in previous stops (OPS of .829 in rookie ball, .734 between A+/AA last year), so the jump to the bigs is likely to be pretty ugly for the first couple months.

Elvis Andrus' numbers, perhaps with a slightly higher batting average and worse OBP, do sound about right.

Yeah, the transition, especially defensively, is going to be tough.

WOW. In his FIRST at bat Castro hits a 2-2 breaking ball opposite field for a 3-run homer!

And in his third at bat Castro hits a base clearing 3-run triple! He's 2-3 with 6 RBI's. SLG% = 2.333

Fine, when Macha actually plays him. Let's see how Castro's doing in a few weeks, huh?

Nice start for castro.

Lets see what happens after teams get a book on him.
