Not playing hard every play is a lot different than what Ramirez did.
His less than half-assing it allowed runs to score.
I don't think you can really say that "nobody" goes all out every play. Many players do, because they give a hoot about their team, their reputation, and their careers.
What Ramirez doesn't care about nor understand, is that he just put a stain on his reputation that will never go away no matter how well he does in the future. There is no defense for what Ramirez did.
