I'm sorry, but this needs to be addressed.

Justin Morneau would have a good shot at the AL MVP if the season ended today: .377 avg (1st), 11 HRs (5th), 35 RBI (5th), .685 SLG (1st).

And yet, he is in 2nd in the ASG voting, nearly 150,000 votes behind Mark Teixeira, whose numbers are .216 avg, 7 HRs, 30 RBIs, .378 SLG. (Yes, Morneau's batting average is only .001 behind Teixeira's slugging.)

Looks about right, though I might give Jose Bautista the nod over Alex Rodriguez if we're talking pure performance. While that might be the single most insane sentence ever constructed, Bautista currently sports an OPS+ over 150 and leads the majors in HRs (again, I can't believe that's possible), with Rodriguez over 20 points behind.

Never understood why MLB just doesn't use an agreed upon projection system to select the players, that way the actual best players will go not the players with most fans, most popular players, or players who get hot for a couple months to start the season and definitely aren't "stars."

MLB is in a constant struggle to maintain their fans. Suddenly changing the system to shut them out of all-star voting may help the most deserving players get in the game, but may alienate the fans. Without fans, MLB obviously wouldn't exist.

Fans will get over it. They will always be there. Pre-1970 fans didn't vote and somehow the game is still going. Plus I'm sure fans of non-elite markets love seeing their guys not get in.

Repealing the rule would require the commissioner to make a competent and thoughtful decision.
