In his non-injured prime, he was amazing to watch. His stats/career were/are just stunning.

Whether you're a mariners fan or not, I think most kids when they were younger had the Ken Griffey Jr. Moonshot poster.

One of my favorite players of all time, I wish him the best.

Haha, glad to see that I'm not alone...had that exact poster.

I had the poster, too.

I've never really been sad by a retirement before, but this is the first. He's been around as long as I've been alive and he was always a joy to watch.

Gunna miss ya, Junior. Thanks for everything.

I had the Griffey Sr/Jr at their locker poster.

Which one was the Moon Shot poster?

BTW, I forgot to add:

Ken Griffey Jr. is why wearing your hat backwards is popular, I'm sure of it.

Anyone else remember reading this over and over again as a kid

I was covering a high school football game this past fall that Griffey's son was playing in, and Griffey was there with Griffey senior......most of game Griffey stood in front of the press box and wanting to see my stat sheet peeking through the open window as I was compiling them for the game recap I was writing.

Just a dad being dad.

Griffey senior was just being grandpa, tending to the smaller Griffey's in tow but trying to watch the game too. Just a normal involved family on a Friday football night.

Nice folks, hope he's at ease with the ending of a great career.

its amazing, when some1 breaks the 'whatever happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse' rule, there is always ramifications that arise

I just ordered a throwback Mariners hat circa 1995. I will only wear it backwards.

One of the guys I grew up watching. Just a pleasure to watch every game. It's too bad injuries slowed him down near the end of his career.

Same. Great player and just had amazing charisma in his prime. He managed to become famous despite the almost willful incompetence of MLB marketing. I wish MLB studied the NBA and learned how to promote players.

Also, not really the thread for it but was I the only one who didn't know he had serious suicide attempt in his past?

Yeah, that's why those who say he was clean say it with such reserve and fortitude: he was a different person after his attempt back in what, 88? Where as before he gave into all the expectations, afterwards he was playing just because it made him happy, not to break records.
