Galarraga loses perfect game-one of worst calls ever

Post#1 » by craig01 » Thu Jun 3, 2010 12:53 am

Armando Galarraga lost a perfect game with two outs in the ninth on a blown call by Jim Joyce at 1B.

Runner was out by a half step..

What a shame.......

Complete travesty...what an awful **** call. It wasn't even particularly close, and he had his foot on the top of the bag, so there's no doubt whether he touched it. Poor kid.

this may be the moment replay became a realistic probability.

Joyce is gonna never live this down either, and it's too bad as he's one of the most entertaining home plate umps I've ever seen.....but is just OK as an ump.

What a joke...the umps have been ridiculous this year from complaining about the length of games, early ejections, and now this. Terrible. It's only the 2nd of June for Pete's sake.

That was the moment replay became an ineveitably, not a possibility. I'm still in shock.

My first reaction was:
Jim Joyce, welcome to the rest of your life

He was pretty clearly out watching it live. It was even more clear on the replay. Even Jason Donald was stunned he was called safe. His jaw dropped with his hands on his helmet.

I also hate that it's being referred to as a 'controversial' call in recaps. Nothing controversial about it, because that suggests that there are two possible outlooks...it was an incorrect call.

They just showed Galarraga going after him after the game was over. Miggy was giving him an earful that last at-bat.

Good luck to Jim Joyce on all future trips to Detroit, because he's going to need it
