Obviously as a Red Sox fan I don't much care for the Yankees. But I've never hated George. After hearing stories of his support of the Jimmy Fund Telethon and really just helping people in need. It's hard not to like him and respect him as a man. It's a sad day for baseball and the Yankees family. RIP.

I'm actually going to Old Timer's Day this weekend. I have no idea what to expect. I know there won't be a dry eye in the Stadium, that much is for sure.

I knew he had been sick for quite a while, but no one really knew exactly how he was doing.
Being as I'm a younger Yankee fan, all I really saw of the man was the guy sitting in the box with the angry look on his face. I didn't get to see his heyday: him feuding with Billy Martin, lighting fires under players and playing games with the media. It's hard to say just how much influence he had over this team in his last few years, but I'm sure he had some say in what happened in major deals for this franchise.
I think allure of his personality will live on forever and the Yankees will pay tribute to him in a great way.

This is some of the saddest news I've ever gotten.
In my own crazy world, I always thought George was un-defeatable. That's why I never accepted that he had gotten so sick. Unfortunately this wasn't the case.
I don't really know what to say right now. George Steinbrenner is the best owner in all of sports. I guess Jerry Buss would be the only one that rivals him in terms of greatness and since he has the cap to work with. But Buss will never match the passion George had to win. The man is a legend and will be sorely missed.
Rest in Peace, George M. Steinbrenner III.
A sad day indeed.

maybe but doesn't change the fact that with all the **** he was consistently involved, there is no reason for anyone other than Yankee fans to shed a tear for this guy, he only did baseball a disservice

Having spent a lot of time over the past 15-20 years in and around Tampa, Mr Steinbrenner was HUGE in the Tampa community.
His LONG TERM charitable efforts there will be sorely missed. It wasn't just a recent thing.
BTW- I am a lifelong Yankee hater, but GS was one of the great executives in AMERICA....and not just baseball.

How could you not love Steinbrenner. I grew up in Houston where the Astros owner has said himself he's happy to be competitive. An owner who wants to win more than anything is something I admire.

Learn about the man, then talk about him. He made countless individual's lives better.
