Clemens To Be Indicted For Lying To Congress

Post#1 » by WEFFPIM » Thu Aug 19, 2010 5:57 pm

NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Times reported on its website Thursday that federal authorities have decided to indict Roger Clemens on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The Times said it based its report on information from two people briefed on the matter and said an announcement is expected in the near future.

Clemens and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, testified under oath at a hearing before a House committee and contradicted each other about whether Clemens had used the banned substances.

The committee held the hearing in February 2008.

McNamee has told federal agents, baseball investigator George Mitchell and the committee that he injected Clemens more than a dozen times with steroids and human growth hormone from 1998-01.

Clemens has maintained that McNamee was lying.

I'm floored.

This whole thing is pretty stupid. He has been through enough. Just leave him alone. It isn't like he lied about some murder. His name is tarnished anyway.

Here is an idea don't lie to congress. I actually find it quite funny that he's been indicted.

It's amazing how simple that sounds. You'd think of places you probably shouldn't lie, Congress is pretty high on this list in my eyes.

I have done nothing but laugh at this entire situation. The congressmen who played a major role in his hearing, specifically Elijah Cummings, had said numerous times that all Clemens had to do was just come out and say he had taken steroids, or even elude to the fact that he may have done them. Instead, he vehemently denied the fact and became an even bigger idiot after misremembering the English language.

Maybe him and Bonds can share a cell...

Clemens is an arrogant dumb ass.

He was however, one helluva pitcher.

Vick wouldn't have served jail time if he hadn't lied. You'd think people would learn.

Bank CEOs didn't murder anyone. Should they have to tell the truth under oath in front of Congress?

How about drug suppliers? Illegal drug users don't have to tell the truth under oath in front of Congress according to you, so why should the dealers? After all, they don't exist without users.

They should name you the truth Czar, and you can decide who actually has to tell the truth to the American people and their representatives in Congress.

That lawyer has really put Clemens behind the eight ball.

Remember the press conference with the playing of the taped phone conversation with McNamee?

Lawyer is and was a fool.

I don't think there was a point....except that the lawyer , I think, liked the drama of being on TV.

Yes OP, we all have a tv and can read a newspaper. This story is getting really old.

Most players have been on the juice at some point in their career. Might as well man up and admit it.

Good question.....before all is said and done, I think Congress just wanted an admission....and personally, imo, that door might still be open.

It would be very ironic if Congress puts Clemens in jail for lying in front of liars and tax cheats .
