I can't believe all of the hype about the HBP.

As a die hard Rays fan that was watching the game live, I had no problem with Jeter doing what he did.

My problem was with the home plate and 1B umpires who are both blind......and apparently deaf.

It's been a bad year for Umpires.

very disappointed to see that from a "captain," not only was it bush league, it also shows how desperate he is, guess cant blame him when one is hitting 260 with 2 million gidps

What do you mean it shows how desperate he is? If the umpires can't tell the difference between a guy faking being hit by a pitch and a guy actually getting hit, then maybe the MLB shouldn't have them umping anymore. There was nothing wrong with what he did, like Craig said the umpires need to put some glasses on and call the game correctly.

IMO, what Jeter did was no different than a catcher framing a pitch, an outfielder trapping a ball and acting like he caught it cleanly, runners on base trying to steal signs from the catcher, or a batter sitting on a 3 ball count and walking towards 1B trying to influence the umpire.

Jeter did what he should have done albeit adding some extra BS to it....but the responsibility falls on the home plate umpire who is apparently not only hard of hearing but blind too as the ball caromed directly into play.

Whatever. You guys are ridiculous. That crap is bush league. I might not even have had as much a problem with it, except you see the f*cking trainer out there looking at his arm. If you're gonna be a pansy-actor, atleast waive the trainer away when he's coming out.

Jeter is a joke. Sure, the umps suck, but I could never do something like that just to get on base.

I bet you guys support flopping in the NBA as well, right? Geez. Same thing, and THAT is ruining the NBA.

I don't mind him faking it, but I don't know why he had to milk it. You can force a grimace while you jog to first and it's just as effective.

In the NFL- lineman grab trying not get caught, NBA players flop, Soccer players exaggerate contact, Baseball players try to steal signs, catchers frame pitches out of the strike zone, NFL teams used to send spys to opponents practices, NASCAR teams circumvent rules restrictions, major college programs work around admissions guidelines, etc.

The home plate umpire awarded Jeter first base, which was the umps error as he missed the call.

Jeter just took the base.

Again, I was watching the Rays and Yankees when it happened, and I could only laugh even though it almost was a game changing moment in the heat of a pennant race.

Not saying it's right, but it is the way it is.

I don't like it, but I also understand that it is part of the game now. With the pressures and the amount of money in the game now, it really is by any means necessary.

What annoys me (and this is not for anybody in particular), is that alot of non "soccer" fans consider the game crap because of all the diving. But it happens all the time and in every sport.

Cheating has always been a part of baseball....not just now

Jeter is one of the few (if not the only) players to get away with that this season. There are several ridiculous flops in every soccer game.

You just claimed he was cheating. He isn't cheating. Do you think it is the responsability of the player to say excuse me sir that didn't actually hit me, I just don't feel right taking first base. You are nuts, baseball is all about selling things, such as pitches as people have said, and when you tag someone you just need to make it look like you got him umps never can tell unless they have a really good view. On a double play as long as your foot is close to the bag they will call the guy out, watch replays a player can stratle the bag as long as it isn't a bad throw they don't usually have to touch the bag directly. Its all part of baseball, and the trainer came running out of the dugout to look at him, he didnt stand there and call him out. Look at chase utley on friday night in philadelphia, when chapman was in the game. That ball did not hit him at all. At least Jeter is honest, after the game he said nope didn't hit me hit the bat. Utley said I think it kinda hit me etc....he didn't have the balls to say yea it missed me.
