Sox need to sign Carl Crawford and call it an offseason.

Werth getting that gigantic contract probably stalled the contract talks. If Werth is getting 126 million over 7 years.. Gonzalez & his agent have to think he's worth 20+ million over 8 years. And it will definitely drive up the price for Crawford assuming they were serious about signing him.

After negotiating with him, there were 3 options imo.

1. Reach agreement on new contract, trade completed.

2. Don't reach agreement, Theo backs out of deal, trade off.

3. Reach agreement on new contract, but be cheap and hold off until after the season starts to announce it so he doesn't effect the luxury tax until 2012.

Ended up being #3. They did it with Beckett last year too. Seems like just asking for trouble to me, but I'm not exactly familiar with the rules on this stuff.

Wow though, what a weekend to follow along to. Haven't had anything like this since the Manny trade.

I actually think the Padres did pretty well for themselves if they were going to move Gonzalez. There is also another player to be named later.

In April. This guy is really, really good. I can honestly see him hitting 60 a year through his prime.
