OT: Red Sox Spending that Guap

Post#1 » by knickabocker88 » Thu Dec 9, 2010 5:10 am

7yrs/142 for Carl Crawford
7yrs/150 for Adrian Gonzalez (post Opening Day)

They Just Went All in, if they don't a ship in the next 3 years, they'll be crippled to make moves in the future, since Henry Bought Liverpool, Future Money is going to go there. I don't know how much NESN Brings in they wont spend money in the next few years

These Guys Might end up like the Current Mets or be a dynasty

This Means Cliff Lee has the Yankees by the Balls, he can squeeze a few more Million Dollars.

Pujols is going to get 225 Million, I can see the Mets go get him and Felix Next Year, Since alot dead money will come of their Payroll next year

who even cares anymore. Baseball has been ruined for me. I have been and was a huge baseball fan my entire life (yankees) But now its pointless. 162 games of rich teams beating up on poor teams.

There is no more passion, its all about money now adays.

Ummmmm what? Padres missed the playoffs by 1 game. Texas, San Francisco, Twins, Reds were all small market teams who made the playoffs. Rangers and Giants played in the World Series. Rangers were in the bottom 5 in payroll. Giants were in the bottom 3. Baseball has more parity than any other sport.

What is the point of the NBA? Lakers have won 5 championships since 2000. Spurs have won 4 since 1999.

Who are the 2 favorites again this year? Spurs and Lakers.

The Red Sox out yankee'd the Yankees last year and didn't even make the playoffs. All this does is shut the "The Yankees try to buy championships" haters up. The Sox pitching staff has a weak underbelly after Lester and Buchholz. Plus I'm no sold on Buchholz. If Cliff Lee comes to NY, I could see NY pulling a Zach Grieke trade (The Yanks can sell NY to him)

Crippled to make moves in the future? You do know how much money the Sox just took off their plates this offseason correct?

Mike Lowell
Adrian Beltre
Victor Martinez
I do believe they stopped paying for Lugo and Renteria this offseason as well.
Also don't be surprised if they move Papelbon cause they don't want to pay him 12 million for the up coming season.

Then next offseason you lose:
David Ortiz
JD Drew
Mike Cameron

Well that's another 30+ million off the books. This team is not crippled despite signing two guys to big contracts.

for 2011 there at 150M

From 2012 and Beyond there going to have to keep an Eye on locking up there home grown players locking up Buchholz and Bard, If Saltalamacchia is the answer at C, theres another extension.

And if 3 years from now the money Lester's & Pedroia are going to command is going to force them to make tough decisions

It really is up there Ownership, how much Luxury Tax are they willing to pay, Can they Balance Owning 2 Iconic Franchises

You Buy Liverpool Your Going to Spend Money, Odds are Every January and July, theres going to be a Major Signing. With the Way the PL is now a Top 4 Finish isn't guaranteed anymore & the CL money that comes with it

They can say all they want about how their Independent from each other but there not, Glazers have had tough times, Hicks found out the hard way.

Then why post?

Also, what the hell are you talking about? Baseball has been more diverse in teams winning world series than the NBA. Its been about as diverse maybe moreso than the NFL. You clearly either just dont like baseball, or have not watched it in a very long time. Either way you are talking out your ass.

Anyway, to the OP..

Not a Theo move, I think the owners may have pressured him to do this. But they have made things interesting.

Last 6 champions have been different teams

05 White Sox
06 Cardinals
07 Red Sox
08 Phillies
09 Yankees
10 Giants

Low budget "poor" teams such as Rays, Rangers, A's, Twins, Padres have shown that's it's not impossible to be competitive.

But it's a hell of a lot harder.

The Mets' problem is that they spend tonnes on mediocre vets and nothing on the draft. It's hard to build a consistent winner when get only two average or above-average major leaguers from 2002-2007...one of which, Scott Kasmir, you trade before he makes the bigs. The best player that they drafted in that time who actually played for them? Dan Murphy, who has a shot at being a mediocre infielder.

What about Reyes and Wright?!?!!? Mets problem is spending money. They are still paying Bobby Bonilla until 2035 for God's sake. Anyone and everyone they brought in has been in the twilight of their careers or a total bust.
