NLDS 2011: Cards (Wild Card) vs. Phillies (NL East)

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Fri Sep 30, 2011 4:26 am

It's the Cardinals, who came from behind like the Rays to supplant the Braves and earned a spot in the postseason. They face the most dominant team of the season, the only 100 game winner, the Phillies.

Game 1

Kyle Lohse (14-8/3.39 ERA/111 Ks/42 BBs)

vs.

Roy Halladay (19-6/2.35 ERA/220 Ks/35 BBs)

I'll go with the Phils in 3 in this series. I think the pitching will be too much for the Cards in this series, and despite the amazing run to make it to October, I don't see them having the same success as the Rays.

It looked like a lost season for the Cardinals when Wainwright went down. With all the problems they had before September, it's hard to believe they ended up winning 90 games and making the playoffs. They are surely the biggest underdog of the four matchups, but for what it's worth they played the Phillies tough this year. They've also proved they can win on the road.

So TLR decides Lohse in game 1 (and possibly another game) instead of Jaime. Very odd. Then Carpenter is going game 2 on short rest, which has to mean TLR has plans for him to go again in game 5. Hopefully Holliday and Furcal can play.

Looks like all the Phillies needed were a little warm up.

The starting pitcher matchups figure to be more even for the next two games. Cardinals continue to hit well. Rebuilt bullpen looking good. Let's see if they can play well at home.
