I think this is a good call on his part. He knows the Cardinals are obviously in a good place right now, and have a very good chance at re-signing Albert Pujols. If they make a hire that Pujols likes, he's all the more likely the stay.

As for La Russa himself, he was a gigantic assh*le but he could manage with the best of em. Hopefully he doesn't dip into the sauce too hard with all the nothing he has to do now.

He did alienate a few players but he's pretty much schooled every manager he faced in this post season. Got to respect him going out on top.

Agreed.

LaRussa has definitely left a footprint in MLB

I have some great memories of watching Tony LaRussa since my childhood and when he was with Oakland. Easily one of the best to ever manage the game.
