I just wrote a piece for my blog -- don't think I'm allowed to post the actual link but it is in my signature -- and listed guys like Shelby Miller and Kevin Youkilis as two players that need to step up as a result of injuries.
Miller is a top pitching prospect and is ready for the major leagues. With Chris Carpenter's injury putting him out for the season and Jaime Garcia's status unknown, I think he needs to step up by not only grabbing a rotation spot, but performing at a high level. He was inconsistent in the minor leagues as a result of changing his mechanics, but then he went back to his original ones and went on a tear.

Youkilis needs to step up by stealing healthy and performing. The Yankees don't have any other options at third base right now and are already in search of another outfield bat with Granderson going down + Ichiro/Gardner both being left-handed batters. But third base is real trouble for them because they have zero internal options.
