Matt Harvey - Partially Torn UCL

New York Mets starter Matt Harvey has a partial UCL tear in his elbow and is headed for the disabled list, according to a team source.

It is not certain if Harvey will have to go undergo Tommy John surgery, the source said.

Harvey was 9-5 in 2013 with a 2.27 ERA and 191 strikeouts, good for fourth in the league.

He started July's All-Star Game for the National League.

He might need Tommy John.

Sigh...my fantasy team...sigh... :cry:

This is huge. If he misses an entire season because of this, then the Mets might be set back an extra couple of seasons in terms of luring talent to Queens to help fill out the roster around him and David Wright.

And this is why you shut down young pitchers early.

Tough break if he does need TJ Surgery. Even though he's on a rival team, I never wish for injuries, and he's a hell of a talent.

I'm in keeper league, 8 players. If he does have Tommy John, should I keep him? Or let him walk and keep someone like Greinke or Teheran?

Man this sucks. Even though he plays for the Mets I hate to see this, it's just like the Strasburg injuries.

Even if he doesn't have the surgery, the odds of him being back before the All-Star break are pretty slim. I'd keep Greinke and hope he really earns that contract next season.

Oddly enough...i got proven correct but got my cheeks handed to me in the process.
my main point being you can't predict how a division will play out 2-3 years down the line...and this is proof that you cannot...i still find it funny how the main point was that the Braves AND the Nats have this division on lock for the next 2 years but you conveniently neglect the Nats abysmal failure.

Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, d'Arnaud and Wright. They have enough to attract talent there. It's on the GM to be a player for some of these Cuban players that are still available.

good thing it's not a death sentence for Harvey...i wish him the best.

TJ Surgery is no longer a death knell. In fact if anything Harvey will come back even better because the surgery cleans up the entire elbow including anything that may have been there from before.

I heard he might just try to rehab it though. Honestly if I'm the Mets, I make him get the surgery. It's all about the long term. Mets aren't winning anything next year anyway, look to the future. You try to just rehab it pretty good chance you'll make it worse or just end up being one of those guys who plays through pain his entire career.

Yeah, the TJ surgery is a remarkable feat in how players come back after the elbow has healed.

Case in point: Rays reliever Jake McGee came back throwing 98 mph after having the surgery 3 years ago, and has been healthy ever since.

I don't really buy that. Francisco Liriano is finally showing glimpses of being similar to what he was 6 years after the surgery.

I don't pay attention to injuries not on my team, but my point was that while it's not a death knell, it can still have a negative impact.
