Prince Fielder to Rangers

Post#1 » by Mamba Mentality » Thu Nov 21, 2013 1:35 am

The Detroit Tigers have agreed to trade first baseman Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers for second baseman Ian Kinsler, according to a report by CBSSports.com.

Physicals are still needed to complete the deal, and another unidentified player could be involved in the deal, according to the report.

Fielder, 29, hit .279 with 25 home runs and 106 RBIs last season, his second with the Tigers. Fielder signed a nine-year, $214 million contract with Detroit prior to the 2012 season.

Kinsler, 31, hit .277 with 13 home runs and 72 RBIs last season with Texas.

I had to do a double take when I saw the ESPN update on my phone about it.

I really don't know what to think about it.

Crazy. Zero loyalty to Fielder, unless he asked to be moved. There should be some money available now to keep Scherzer long-term.

Excellent trade for Texas.

I think that the Rangers pull away good in this deal. Fielder is still only 29 and should blast off in the Rangers ballpark. That thing is built for him.

I think what's craziest about it to me is that it's heads-up. How often do we see names of this caliber, in any sport, go one-for-one?

I will agree with Ty about Texas being the winner here, especially if they can get Prince to restructure that deal now, or sometime down the road. The Tigers simply get a second baseman on the better end of the spectrum, but is on a relatively steady decline AND on the wrong side of 30.

Oh, and Prince could have a huge bounce back year and rake 50 HRs in Arlington in 2014.

They won't need to restructure, seen reports that Detroit is going to pay for some of it.

This is also a great deal for Detroit though. Nick Castellanos moves to 3rd base now and Cabrera can survive a full-season again by moving back to 1B. Plus increasing the chances of Scherzer extending.

I think it's safe to say that both teams benefit from this trade.

Texas adds a power bat that should play well in their stadium. Plus Profar is free now.
Detroit can re-sign Scherzer and they can get their infield a little more athletic.

Detroit looking good and poised for another run imo.

Great trade for Texas. Not sure about Detroit, I mean I get that it clears up $ to keep Scherzer but that's a monster bat out of the lineup even if his #s weren't as great playing in Detroit's park.

I'm pretty much with this theory. The playoffs really showed just how unathletic the Tigers were last season. I'm not a huge Kinsler guy, but he's solid. Plus as you said they get to resign Max.

I like this trade for Detroit a lot.
Overall, both teams benefit.

If the Rangers can get Fielder back to wanting to play baseball and if the Tigers can get Kinsler to quit popping out every other at bat than this trade could benefit both teams on a major scale.

Crazy trade. I think it actually works well for both teams. Detroit now has the money to resign Scherzer and Texas gets a big bat to replace Cruz.
