The Los Angeles Angels and star center fielder Mike Trout are discussing a six-year contract extension that would pay him in the range of $150 million, a source close to the negotiations told Yahoo Sports.
Both Trout and the Angels have expressed a desire to lock up the 22-year-old to a long-term deal this spring, and discussions for now have focused on a six-year deal that would buy out two years of Trout’s free agency and put him on the open market at 28 years old.

he's worth it. If not for all his arbitration years remaining, he'd probably find a team (if not the angels) willing to give him the richest contract in MLB history.

If he were to hit free agency before he turned 25, I have no doubt in my mind the Yankees would give him majority ownership of the franchise and the keys to the Empire State Building.

Makes sense that Trout and his agent would be pushing for a six year deal so he could hit free Agency at 28. Either way the Angels will get great value out of the deal for the next six years.

kid's gonna be a Dodger man.
can't wait.
who holds out on a deal like this that keeps you in position for another big deal at age 28 where another team (MY Dodgers) will gladly give you 8-10 years and take you into your late 30s.
poor Angels.

lol why poor Angels? They are getting the best player of this generation to play for them throughout most of his twenties, with the possibility of breaking the bank again for him later if they so chose.

If he bolts it will likely be for an East Coast team, not the Dodgers. lol

yea...cuz he's from jersey blah blah blah.
He's going to fall in love with the weather in So. Cal and keep his work separate from family.
he's gonna watch this boys in blue win 2 or 3 WS while he's on that 6 year deal and sign with the winner.
Angels turrible FO
Yankees...no farm, no player development, every good player is getting locked up by their franchise.
lol Mets
lol Phillies
I can see Harper for sure becoming a Yank though.
all bro-science though and just for fun. who really knows.

I could see him being a Philly if they don't get tied up in crazy contracts when he becomes a FA. Although my best Guess is that he'll be resigned by the Angels.

The Angels have officially announced agreement on a long-term extension with star outfielder Mike Trout. The deal covers six years and is worth $144.5MM. Trout receives a full no-trade clause.

It's just perfect, what are contracts 6 years from now going to look like anyways? He could follow this up with a 400 mil contract if all goes to plan

He's getting $33.25 MM in his first 3 years of FA, which were bought out in this extension.

He wasn't going to get $30M/yr in arbitration, even though he is worth it. If you assume $10M for his first year of arbitration, $20M for the next, then $30M for the next 4 years of the contract, it comes out about right.

i dont understand the deal
but congrats to trout for getting it
if i was a team, i would cost control a player as much as possible until they hit FA, and if I was a player, I would want to hit FA as soon as possible, this way the market dictates the true value

Not that hard to understand. They want to keep Trout an Angel as long as possible... Trout wants financial security in case of an injury. He also gets a $5 million signing bonus. He'll get his money no matter what.
