If You Were Building Your Franchise...

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Thu Sep 25, 2014 2:27 pm

...and you had the choice to take one of these two options (time machine included) for a starting center fielder and a starting pitcher, who would you choose?

CFs

Ken Griffey Jr., ages 22-24 (average of those three seasons):

.313 AVG
.994 OPS
37 HRs
101 RBI
77 SOs
65 BBs

Mike Trout, ages 20-22

.312 AVG
.965 OPS
31 HRs
97 RBI
152 SOs
86 BBs

Pitchers

Pedro Martinez, ages 25-27

20-6
2.29 ERA
202 ERA+
290 Ks
57 BBs
11.4 K/9

Clayton Kershaw, ages 24-26

17-7
2.05 ERA
176 ERA+
233 Ks
49 BBs
9.5 K/9

You can weigh in all the factors, like PED usage and quality of talent of his contemporaries. Who would you take to start your lineup and your rotation?

Trout and Martinez.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Kinda unfair since we knew what happened to the careers of the other two players, isn't it? Are we only keeping them for those 3 years?

Griffey and Pedro both were at their time top 3 at their respective positions.

To me Ken Griffey Jr is a top 10 player of all time if he didn't have the injury problems be would have the HR record and maybe be in the top 5
