Not gonna lie that is probably my most enjoyable rivalry for all of houston sports since I don't care AS much about baseball

I remember going to a game for my friends birthday in elementary school during McGwire and Sosa race and they had a tv crew come ask us if we came to watch the Astros get closer to clinching or mcgwire hit (I think he was at 60 at that time) and we all said McGwire

And I still root for the cubbies...I could never say that about any football team or basketball team in our division

Yea, I miss the NL Central as well. Those series against the Cards in 2004/5 were amazing. Watching Lidge's balls drop off when Pujols ripped his manhood from him(as well as ripped the hearts out of every single Astros fan watching at the time, still remember it like it was yesterday), and then Oswalt saying "I got this sheeeeeeeit" to help send us to our first WS.

Didn't turn out how we hoped, but man those were some great games!

(beating Atlanta two years in a row was a nice bonus as well, especially that 18-inning clincher in 2005!)

I hate being in the West now, not so much due to the teams they play against but the fact that every time they go on a divisional road trip the games start so damn late I hardly get to enjoy them during the week.

Oh well. I'm just ready for some damn baseball.

bsjaffe6 wrote:losing Reyes is only a blow until you realize the cards have at least8 ready to go starting pitchers, whereas the Rangers have 2 and nothing else but questions. the Astros pitching is their key the have a decent group but need consistency

Yes. The forgotten one, Lance Lynn, who was out last year will take Reyes' spot. We'll be just fine.

Watch out for Maikel Franco this year

Can't see the Phils making the playoffs this year but they aren't a bad team

Franco and Odubel Herrera are a nice pair of 3-4 hitters, but our entire rotation seems like a bunch of 2nd starters at best and our bullpen is questionable.

Rest of the lineup is meh.

I do love me some Odubel though. If the Phillies suck he will be a big name at the trade deadline

Michael Wacha is back to looking like his old self. Very good sign for my red birds. Both Leake and Lance Lynn had solid outings this week. So much looking forward to having our extremely solid pitching staff back again. Last year was a huge mess of injuries throughout the who pitching staff, up and down.

Drove around running errands listening to Eric Nadel calling Rangers/Cubs.

There is something that is just right about baseball on the radio... it fits.

Growing up as a kid, I usually ended up in the North Maine Woods with my grandfather almost every weekend on fly fishing trips. He always had is battery radio to hear all the Red Sox games.

Spent many evenings at work listening to Mark Holtz and Eric Nadel broadcast some bad Ranger teams in the 80's and 90's. They were as good as any radio crew in baseball. Nadel was inducted into the Hall of Fame a few years ago. Had Holtz not been lost to Leukemia years ago I believe he would have been too.

Baseball on the radio is great when you have announcers that can paint the game. That's why Dodger fans were so fortunate. Vin Scully was the best.

The other thing I did when I was younger was watch Celtic games on t.V. while listening Johnny Most on the radio. that man was just plain and simple, the best.

This found its way to my Twitter feed this morning. Those numbers don't even make sense for someone to achieve.

He was a bad ass.

That is insane, thank you for sharing that.

God I hated going up against that Braves team in the 90's. Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz, dear lord what a brutal trio to face.
