Why have the Yankees win one title since 2001?

Think of it....since 2001, the Red Sox have just won 3 titles, and probably on their way to 4.
Since 2001, Yankees have won in 2009.
Why?

2001 - Rivera choked
2003 - World Series was a 50/50 series and some breaks just didn’t go their way.
2004 - Rivera choked
2005 - lol pitching
2006 - lol pitching
