mickey mantle
joe dimaggio
ken griffey jr.
ty cobb
tris speaker

those are just off the top of my head i might look at more players later but since i named 6 off the bat id say no.

Why do you think I said 7th? I know those 6 are better, but I can't find anyone else after that. Closest is probably Duke Snider.

Crawford=RF

Doby=not even close

Puckett=don't think he was on the same level as Edmonds, but still top 15

And yeah if(and once) Andruw Jones puts up 3 more great years I will put him at 7th, but not yet. Also Andruw needs to have a couple more career years to be considered up there in my opinion. But Andruw may even end up 4th on the all-time CF list.

Others up there in my top 15: Bernie, R. Ashburn, J. Wynn, D. Murphy, B. Hamilton.

A player if he can keep up what he did last year is Beltran, but I don't think he can stay at that level for 3-5 more years.

Is this just defensively or is batting included? If batting is included, then I'd agree that Andruw needs 2-3 more years of great power numbers to get there. His BA sucks, but he robs so many hits in CF he almost makes up for it. I'd have a hard time putting anyone ahead of him defensively.

with all this said do you think edmonds is a hall of famer, when you mention that name it doesnt exactly scream hall of famer to me.

not sure why i thought crawford was a center fielder thought when i read a book about cobb it mentioned crawford played there.

In my opinion Andruw needs a couple/few more career years to be considered great, not just a very good player who put up a ton a very good years and great numbers.

As of now top 10 WARP3 seasons:

Edmonds
12
10.6
10
9.9
9.7
9.5
8.9
8.7
7.1
7.1

Jones
10
9.5
9.3
9.2
9.1
8.3
8.2
6.7
6.1
5.2

Total- Edmonds 103.8, Jones 82.8

Now Jones could put up a the same total WARP3 as Edmonds in 4 or less years. But the thing that will keep Jones down is if he stays at the WARP3 of 9, because I'm not sure he can be ranked in there with the top 6.

And yes Edmonds should without a doubt be a hall of famer, stud. Thats mostly why I kinda made this thread I don't think people realize that Edmonds is without a doubt a top 10 CF of all-time, and #7 currently in my book.

Bernie Williams?

Carlos Beltran is going to be up there if he can maintain his current ability. Which should be likely as he had his best year last year.

What other Bernie is there? You don't think Bernie is a top 15 CF?

Eh, you're a lot more optimistic on Beltran than I am, just look at what he did in 2005. I'm not sure he can stay at the high level that he was last year.

I don't think Edmonds is a Hall of famer, but he is a very, very good player. And Jones isn't near him on offense yet.

I'm having trouble coming up with any center fielders who haven't already been mentioned.

Andre Dawson played center field for several years when he came up with the Expos, but spent most of his career playing right field. Does he count? Was he as good as Edmonds even if he does? Can we get a ruling on this?

The Mariners have moved Ichiro to center field...if he stays there long enough, does he pass Edmonds?

Are you considering the Negro Leagues? If so, then Edmonds gets bumped back by Oscar Charleston and (maybe) Cool Papa Bell.

Not so much racist as how much stock do you put into anecdotal evidence. The Negro Leagues weren

Yeah but defensive metrics suck since the dawn of time so defensively, both negro and blanco league players' defensive abilities are based primarily on anecdotal evidence. Now, of course, MLB has better documented batting statistics but the gap is certainly closer than some other positions because defensive abilities mean less at say first base. The all time great CFs pretty much were above average defensively. mahalo

Bill James considers Charleston one of the best players ever and he has forgotten more about baseball then we'll ever learn so I tend to believe him.

Andre Dawson played 1027 games in centerfield, 1284 in right and 39 in left. So yeah, IMO he definitely qualifies as a centerfielder. Also Andre Dawson was not a juice head like Edmonds.
