Alright guys. What are the odds of a rookie relief pitcher winning Rookie of the Year in the National League?

Why do I ask this?

Well, my buddy Joe Smith is a rookie pitcher for the New York Mets and he's been one of the more reliable relievers in the NL so far this season.

Joe Smith's Stats
10 games, 9.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 10 K, 4 BB, 6 Hits, 2 Holds, 1.07 WHIP, .188 BAA

He also came in today and inherited 3 runners and wound up striking out Andruw Jones in a bases loaded situation with 2 outs...

Is there a way that he could possibly beat out Josh Hamilton for NL Rookie of the Year if Hamilton hits 30+ HRs? What if the Mets win the East and the Reds finish 4th or worse in their division?

Just curious...

Where you finish doesn't matter at all in rookie of the year voting.

Also, it's waaaay to early to tell, but just to let you know there are other rookie pitchers who have been just as good as Smith so far.

Oh I know its too early. Which is why I'm asking if he keeps it up, which he more than likely will cuz when Joe gets settled he's pretty much untouchable. Alot of those rookies will fall off but I don't think Joe will. I also realize that where you finish doesn't matter but what I'm saying in Joe's case is, what if Joe plays a pivital part in the Mets winning the NL East? Wouldn't that give him a lil bit of an advantage?

Joe Smith is pretty good.. I have seen him throw a few innings this year..

I don't see him winning NL rookie of the year though.. But who knows it's too early to tell.

Personally, I'm rooting for Joe just because he's a great drinkin buddy of mine and all but I'm not going to be in denial either. As of current rookies in the NL, the list is simply put as this...

1. Josh Hamilton







2. Everyone else

I don't think there is a player on the Mets roster that couldn't strike out Andruw Jones.

Oh, I'm not doubting that. Just saying that it's rather impressive for a rookie reliever to come in with the bases loaded against one of the biggest HR threats in the league at the plate and sit him down in 4 pitches.

IDK, maybe I'm riding the Joe Smith bandwagon a lil hard.

But hey, when he's a top 5 reliever in the league, everybody will know that I didn't just jump on!

Too early to tell. Once batters start seeing him more things will change.

If Josh Hamilton qualifies as a rookie its him no doubt. Hes gonna put up 25HR easy
