I have heard a ton of hype about this guy and I can not wait to see how he does.

He's going to get pounded.

He'll do alright, the Jays typically do bad against pitchers they haven't seen before. And it seems like young good pitchers always make their debut against the Jays.

I am tired of hearing about him.

I think you're confused... Philip Hughes is pitching....Not Mike Pelfrey.

2-0 in the first.

That's ok. Pelfrey has struggled mightily I will admit.

About Hughes thus far, he has pretty good control getting his breaking pitches over but his FB is looking a little straight early on.

4.1 IP 7 H 4 R 4 ER 1 BB 5 K. Solid performance imo, rough 1st and 5th. Probably got pulled cuz of the pitch count.

Solid performance?

He only went 4.1 - That's not a solid performance at all.

The Bullpen was already worn out before this game correct?

I hadn't heard the YES tandem previously, or at least not when paying attention, and they were fantastic. Best I've heard in a long time.

Were you expecting 9 ips from a kid who the most pitches he's thrown is 89 in a game this season, while averaging a whopping a little over 5 ips per outing. Their probably happy he got to the fifth in his debut. I didn't mean numbers wise it was a solid outing.

I expected atleast 5innings out of him.

The guy has amazing stuff. No doubt.. But why would they bring him up knowing they wouldn't get many innings out of him when the bullpen was already worn out. Hasn't Petite came out of the pen a few times this year?

Probably because Chase Wright can't go five innings and Hughes can probably pitch left handed as well as Wright can. I would argue that it was a little bit of a rush job, he could have used more time in the minors, but things happen and he is called upon today. It's going to be a rough go of it early on but I expect Hughes to settle down and pitch well. It pains me to see him in a Yankees uniform. He grew up a Red Sox fan and he's probably the only Yankee player I am actively going to root for. I just hope he loses against the Red Sox. mahalo
