I thought if the closer saved a 3 run lead they got got a save. But JJ Putz got a save tonight for a 15-11 win over the yankees.... WTF?

There are exceptions to that rule. I believe if the tying run is at the plate or on deck when you enter, then you get the save. I might be wrong, but the game ended with the bases loaded so that might be the case.

Yeah you could have a save in a 5 run game if when you came in, the bases were loaded. If the winning or tying run ever enters the on deck circle, it's a save...but you cannot create your own save situation.

you can have a 10 run save if your offense is that great. it can be bottom of 8th, 6-3, and ur closer already pitched in 8th inning, if you score 13 runs, and the closer still goes out, he can get a save with 16-6

Also if you pitch the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings without giving up the lead, you get a save regardless of the size of the lead

Actually if the closer comes in while they are trailing, like you described, he would get the win, not the save. If the score was reversed and the team up 6-3 scored 13 runs and wins 19-3 then he would still get the save.

From a source I heard that a save is going to be renamed a Fransico Cordero for his total dominance of the stat.

A save is a statistic that was created by end of the night relievers in order to command more money in the FA market.

Don't get a rash... :nonono:

He's sayin that saves are the most overrated statistic in baseball. Essentially the same as a hold.... yet players with tons of holds get minimal exposure.
