Reds File Grievance over trade with Nats

The Reds have filed a grievance against the Washington Nationals over the trade that brought sore-shouldered reliever Gary Majewski to Cincinnati last season.
The Reds contend that Nationals general manager Jim Bowden failed to inform them of Majewski's shoulder problems when they got the right-hander as part of an eight-player deal last July 13.
Majewski has struggled since joining the Reds, and is in the minors this season.
About time, a grievance has been talked about since last season but it never came. That deal was basically terrible not because we shouldn't have traded those players but because we got terrible value for them. I believe that Austin Kearns alone would have netted a lot as Kearns is supposed to be pretty good. I don't really know what Krvisky was thinking on that one.
Anyway, Maj sucked last year(don't blame him if he was hurt), his confidence must have been killed but now I just hope that something can get done since the information was withheld. What would you guys expect from this?

A mil, maybe 2. I still think Bray was the best asset in that trade... neither Kearns nor Lopez is really wowing anyone in Washington. Can't wait til Bray assumes Stanton's spot...
Or maybe Weathers'?

Weathers has been pitching great... and i know Kearns is struggling, but the Reds still could use him... there offense is piss poor

It's hard to be sympathetic about a deal that was so ill-advised in the first place.

I'm not in front offices and therefore don't know exactly how these things work, but when you're making a major trade involving a pitcher who had already been under a huge workload the past two seasons, wouldn't it stand to reason that it might be a good idea to make sure he's healthy before pulling the trigger?

The Reds made some questionable trades last year to "improve" their bullpen last year... the only good trade they made was getting Arroyo

Well in all fairness, we have replaced Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns, both hitting in the mid .200s with Josh Hamilton and Alex Gonzalez. Again, the trade was only bad because we gave up too much value, otherwise, Krivsky had the right idea.

I dont think it was a bad trade at all... Kearns gets hurt, every damn year. Lopez' value was peaking, and I dont doubt that that was the best offer any GM would give for the two. I mean, I doubt I'd see GMs offering top prospects or even really good ones for guys as inconsistent as Lopez and as injury-prone as Kearns (well, maybe Kearns, if he was traded to the AL as a DH only). Getting a 93+ MPH throwing lefty in Bill Bray seems like an excellent pickup for that package.
I guess the Kearns hype really sunk in w/fans more than GMs..
But I'm also the guy who said signing Gil Meche was a step in the right direction for the Royals.... much to the dismay of everyone on the old board. I'd just like to post it on here so I can refer to it next offseason

Kearns never really did anything extraordinary and like you said, he was really hyped up. You do make a good point as we don't know what other offers he was getting. Now the real test for Krivsky comes, bringing this team out of the gutters :cough: trade Dunn for pitching :cough:.
