so yea, this isn't mlb related but I was wondering, does anyone in here like/watch/follow/or even care about college baseball and the CWS? I'm not a huge fan, but I do follow it a little bit and I was looking for some thoughts/opinions on how you guys see this years tournament playing out.

I never seriously watched it until last year, when the OSU Beavers took it. It was pretty fun then. Pretty much the whole state of Oregon (a willingly accepting if not great baseball market) tuned in to watch the Beavs win it all. I've been excruciatingly busy lately but I may catch more of their games.

And the Beavs beat Michigan 1-0. A scrappy team, indeed. Quite a lot like last year's version, except less talented.

yea, but they seem to get it done...

my O-State Cowboys are out of it after taking a beating by Louisville but I'll continue to watch. The CWS tournament has some good baseball.

I start picking it up once it gets to Omaha. I went to a game last year when the Beavers played Rice. That was just some good ole fundamental baseball. Loved it

Credit Pat Casey for the fundamental baseball. He's good at managing it.

division I needs to go to wooden bats.

that would put an interesting twist on the game but I don't think they could have D-I use wood bats and have D-II and D-III stick with the metal.

...just a sidenote but there are a lot of collegiate summer wood bat leagues in which many of the top D-I players play in like the The Texas Collegiate League and the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League to name a few.

then have everyone go to wood bats. there's so little skill involved with hitting a metal bat it's sickening to watch the CWS sometimes. not to mention the incredible danger involved for pitchers. adults using metal bats? can you imagine some of the guys in the majors (pujols, bonds, etc.) using metal bats?


and believe me, i'm well aware of the wood bat leagues. i was just in cape cod for a week playing against teams in the cape cod league, which is considered one of the top collegiate summer leagues

I love the CWS...but that's because I have this strange obsession with UNC.

Beavs beat CSF in a tight one. The young gun, Jorge Reyes, pitched incredibly well.

I'm a bit surprised but still happy that the beavs are keeping it going. Right now the only game that scares me is tomorrow's against ASU. If we make it past them, then there is a good chance at a repeat.

wow... Cs Fullerton and UC Irvine tied at 4 in the 13th fighting of elimination. good stuff.

OSU is just completely spanking ASU...and yes, I am a bit surprised. Happy, but surprised.

I was suprised too... ASU's 9.6 runs per game showed up a little bit too late and their pitching was awful.

UC Irvine wins another thriller tonight to eliminate ASU. Looks like they have a chance to be this years OSU...

On the side, during yesterdays game, Orel Hershiser and Mike Patrick were talking about the increased number of hit batters during this years CWS. They said it was due to the new mentality of the hitters of not moving out of the way or even leaning into pitches that are coming their way. They went on to say that it has kinda of turned into an offensive weapon for the hitters and they seemed to think it was a bad thing, like the hitters have turned it into a way to get a free base. What are you guys opinions on this? Is it a good or bad thing? And will we ever see this type of Craig Biggio-like mentality throughout MLB.

Really. Far as I'm concerned, they should be the favorites. Pat Casey has that team in the motherf**kin' ZONE.

After last couple of games, I'm starting to think that they are unbeatable. They just seem to be playing like everything comes naturally to them. Now they have 2 days rest before the finals start while UNC and Rice still have to play one more before knowing who will play Saturday. The cards are all in OSU's hands.
