A Santana changeup is devasting.
If Wood was healthy I'd say his breaking pitch, Prior with a fastball.
Peavy slider is up there as well as is Verlander.

It's really not one pitch that makes someone. What makes one pitch so good is the pitch he sets it up with. Santana has a good fastball, but because he varies speed and throws a changeup that breaks like it does, it makes it that much more effective. No one would think it was that good if his fastball sat at 85.
Does Dice-K even throw a gyroball?
Rivera is the only pitcher on this list that has thrown one pitch consistently and been effective.
Even Wakefield mixes in his curveball and 70-something fastball to be effective.

When healthy, Petey's circle change is absolutely unhittable.

Clearly you've never seen a good one in person.

There, fixed it.
A knuckleball is scary, not in the sense that you will lose your life if you get hit (like Zumaya's fastball at your head would be), but it just dances and bounces so much that it is so hard to know where it's going and what to do with it as a batter. mahalo

It comes in at about 70 MPH and if it hits you it doesn't hurt.. If it doesn't dance it comes in like a batting practice fastball.

which is the same as a curve ball or a slider...but if you leave it up it's like a batting practice fastball. We're not judging the pitch on if they make a mistake with it...we're judging the pitch. Go hit a major league knuckleball and get back to me.
