It just a matter of him playing untill 39 and staying healthy. All he needs is to average 40/year.

Also, Griffey...imagine if he stayed healthy over the last 6 years...he for sure would break it.

Either ARod or Pujols should theoretically pass Bonds.

As a young man i remember finding out the Hank Aaron had more home runs than Willie Mays. Hard to believe anyone hit more than Mays but Aaron had. When Hank was done his total seemed unapprochable. I didn't think it would ever fall and even up to a few years ago when Bonds was hitten dingers at a fast pace, i hoped, but still doubted the record would fall.

I'm a fan of Mays, the Giants, and Bonds. Deep down i wanted to see him get the record but too many stars had to line up for it to happen. Well, happen they did and now Barry is soon to be the Home Run King.

It's a long hard pull to 500. Harder still to 600. It's going to take over 800 to break Bonds record. Even as good as these fellas are, too many stars are going to have to line up. I wish them luck though, it's good for the game.

Yes, most definitely. The only thing standing in his way is Barry Bonds and when he retires. Maybe he plays another 2 seasons and ends up at 850-ish. I don't know if A-Rod can realistically surpass that.

No player has more homers through his age 31 season than A-Rod. And A-Rod still has 80 games to pad that stat.

I don't see why he can't average 50+ HR for the next 5 years with another 3 or 4 years of 30 HR seasons at the end. He should make a mockery of the record.

At the end of the season he's going to have about 514 HR. At this point it's just an exercise in longevity.

sure if arod stays healthy but you never know about guys when they enter their mid 30s

ARod is already at 500 basically, if he averages 40 HR for the next 7 years....not nearly undoable considering his age he will reach Bonds.

I think unless you have over 500 it is too early to say. But a lot of young players that hit home runs like its nothing will eventually come close. In 20 years what spot do you figure Hank Aaron will be in?

It's possible that he wont even be in top 5.

I agree. I really see no reason why AROD won't get the home run record.

A-Rod definitely has a chance to do it.

The two other guys to watch are, of course, Pujols (fastest to 250 and averaging 30+ a year, only guy to post 30+ in his first 6 seasons) and Howard (fastest to 100 homers). If they keep steady production and stay healthy, they've got a shot down the road.

I am so unbearably sad that Griffey was injured for the last few years though, he's one of my favorite players of all time and he had such a great chance to break the record.

It would have been so special to watch him and Bonds race to the record together.

When it is said and done A-Rod will break the homerun record and will have well over 3000 hits. Its great to see him play. Effortless
