Which is the best 8th/9th inning relief combination in the majors?!?

My vote goes to Scot Shields and Francisco Rodriguez from the Angels...

Okajima and Papelbon (Boston) are a close second...

If Gonzo didn't go down I'd say Soriano and Gonzalez. But I agree with the Angels.

It's not like it's a ridiculous statement. Look at the year Soriano has had and the year Gonzo was having.

If Gonzo didn't have to get Tommy John he'd be our closer by now. That's where he's best and he would have been given the job once Wickman got hurt and started sucking.

Turnbow (when he is not turnblow! )/Cordero deserves an honorable mention.

but I pretty much agree with shields/K-rod.

meredith/hoffman is also pretty good IMO.

Putz and Oflaherty is a sick combo.

When healthy, in the NL, Wagner and Duaner Sanchez = BEASTS.

I wish people could put biases aside on this board.......

The Angels by far

This is year I would say Saito and Broxton have been the best.

And this isn't a 8th/9th combo but H. Bell and C. Meredith are 2 very nice relievers (hell even K. Cameron and his 0.31 ERA deserves mention) for the Padres.

turnbow and coco can over power people!

But i have to go with the twins combination.

Turnbow and Cordero have been excellent this year but you just can't trust Turnbow. He has such problems to get his breaking stuff over for strikes.

I already feared that I would jinx Shields/KRod last night (I had money on the Angels) but they were once again... NASTY!!!

good call on saito/broxton surprised i forgot them especially since they've helped a couple of fantasy teams.

and how much of a factor is the park when it comes to san diego churning out great relievers.

It HAS to be Okajima-Papelbon.

It's unbeatable.

I'm biased, but Neshek-Nathan. The back end of probably the best bullpen in baseball.

Combined ERA of some combos:

Twins: 3.88
Red Sox: 2.76
Angels: 4.03
Rangers: 3.88

Milwaukee 3.17 ERA

The Blue Jays combined set up and closer ERA is 2.63. Though Accardo and Janssen have been (surprisingly) quite good this year, I'm pointing this out to show how silly it is just post people's ERAs and think you've said something.
