What do you all think? I am personally happy.

i'm not really sure how good the prospects are. but if they are as good as noted, then i'm not too sure about it. and i'm not as impressed with linebrink as others.

but. if linebrink does go somewhere else brews get a 1st round pick (or sandwich. i forget) then it's kinda even.

Great trade by the Padres.

IMO it should be good for the Brewers to "bolster up their bullpen", as the article says. If they need to trade some for one really good pitcher... well, that's baseball. The Brewers do need some help however they can take it with their current pen.

Linebrink's peripherals don't exactly inspire confidence, but he has a track record. None of those pitchers are really impact guys, so I'd say it's a fairly even trade. That's the price you are going to pay this year for a reliever.

He's a pretty decent pitcher. He's been a hot commodity the last few trade deadlines but somehow survived the last two.

So, he doesn't look too bad. Definitely more stable than what we have in our bullpen. Our Pen is now legit with Wise, Turnbow, Linebrink, and Cordero.

Those stats are all well and good, but this year he's been horrible.

6.05 ERA with a 1.66 WHIP outside Petco.

I'm floored San Diego was able to get this much for him. The compensation picks will help, but this is a great deal for the Padres.

I'd rather have Inman than Linebrink, and rather easily. Linebrink has been a pretty overrated reliever the past couple years in which his name has been all around trade rumors. This year he is sporting a 4.70 xFIP, which is pretty bad for a reliever, hell I think Inman could come up and put up a 4.70 xFIP from the bullpen.

Inman supposedly doesn't have front of the rotation stuff, but as of now he's a 20 year old in AA and impressing. His numbers say he's a top 25 prospect, but his stuff makes most people put him only around the forties and fifties.

Either way, to me this trade looks awfully good for the Padres.

Edit-Damn, this makes me think the Cards could have gotten Inman for Ryan Franklin, come on Jocketty get on the phone.

If he's type A, which he is I believe, and leaves the Brewers could end up with two picks in the top 40 or so come next June.

So we get a another effective arm in the bullpen for the stretch run and worst case he leaves and we get a sandwich pick for the draft with the possibility of getting two.

I'll take that for our AA pitcher.

why must you bring that up?

though to be honest i dont think chris young wouldve ever posted an ERA under 4.00 if he stayed here. some texas fans seem to look past that.

i hope this trade sets the precedent for the deadline b/c the brewers i think gave alot for this trade.

Big time desperation move to give up that much for Linebrink.

Especially since 1) he will be a free agent and 2) he wasn't likely returning to San Diego anyhow. But if this helps them stave off the Cubs and get a playoff birth, you can call it a push.

As for now, advantage Padres.

well a plus for the brewers is he'll be a type A or type B free agent so they could get a draft pick out of it.

do they still give draft picks for Type B picks? isnt it a compensation pick?

As a brewer fan, I am happy with this trade. On paper it may look like we are giving up a lot, but we have a logjam of starting pitchers in our farm system/pitchers just brought up. We didn't have to part with Gallardo, Parra, or Jackson and if Linebrink does bolt after this season, I believe we are given some comp. draft picks. As far as Linebrinks stats are concerned, look at Coco's stats before he was brought over from Texas last year. A change of scenery can do wonders for relief pitchers.

One final thing I'm curious about is that Yahoo Sports ran an article saying that the Brewers were interested in bringing in Dye, but weren't willing to part with Turnbow. Does this change things?

And I seriously doubt Linebrink will be a Type A FA. Players are re-classified after the season and there's no way he holds that much value.

Melvin seems pretty confident he will be. I believe it's based upon the last two years of service.

I didn't even see who the minor leaguers were, but my friends and I agreed we'd prefer the three minor leaguers.
