George Steinbrenner...Good for baseball or bad

What do you guys think of Georgie? I know a lot of people hate him, because he has driven salaries up. But what sport doesn't have rising salaries? There is now revenue sharing in baseball, everyone gets a piece of the pie. TV ratings are at an all-time high, lower market teams get revenue sharing. I know maybe George hasn't been a model citizen, but you can't say he has been bad for baseball.
Or can you?

He genuinely cares about his team and does whatever it takes to win. The league needs 30 Steinbrenners.

It's because of him that JP gave Vernon Wells 126 million over 7 years.

Both. He is the kind of owner you want for your team. You do not want every owner to be like him though, throwing money here and there. I personally would have loved to have had him manage my team.

Exactly, If he owned my team I'd love him. He's the same as Mark Cuban in the NBA.

he's not good or bad. MLB needs their owners to really put $$$ into it.
it's not his fault that the marlins, devil rays, pirates, rangers, blue jays, orioles, giants, nationals don't spend money/use it retardly.

Stupid Vernon Wells. We should have just traded him for good prospects.

It's not Steinny's fault that his team is the richest sports franchse, possibly in the world. He spends his money and doesn't line his pockets so I respect him for that. He's also forced other teams to streamline things and try to manage their money better (with mixed results). He does get overzealous sometimes and takes it upon himself to call the shots rather than professionals but overall, I would say he has had a more positive than negative impact upon the sport. mahalo
