Barry Bonds to hire lawyers

San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds has hired a pair of lawyers to strike back against those making potentially defamatory statements about him.
Bonds says he does not intend to go after the media or stymie free speech, but, according to his lawyers, he wants to stop private citizens from "profiting from his accomplishments by attributing statements or conversations to him that never occurred."
"Barry is basically saying that he has been kicked around a lot and he is tired of being kicked around," said John Burris, one of Bonds's lawyers.
"Our issue is really about statements that are made that are attributed to him that are not true. Particularly, statements that someone might say he made about the use of steroids or tax evasion."
Lawyers are expected to review the October issue of Playboy, which will include a nude pictorial and interview with Bonds's former mistress, Kimberly Bell.

I think its a good idea but I think he should have stuck with it the first time he tried to do this. Cause now, since he's being investigated, this might bring even more attention to him. But I dunno, I think he has the right idea at least by targeting people who have made false statements about him... i.e. Curt Schilling. (I doubt that works though.)
